Top overhaul
« on: January 08, 2010, 06:39:29 PM »
As above, my car is 4.5 yrs old & 113000km mileage. Recently have been hearing crackling noise from center dashboard console. Sent my car in to TCM for check

they said got air bubbles trapped in cooling system could be due to blown gasket. Ask me to do top overhaul at cost of $1.3k (labour) & $0.2k (parts). Have to leave car there for 1 week.

Beside that crackling noise, no other symptoms.

They only suspect and not confirm as well.

Any views on it?

Do you happen to have the crackling sound when you turn as in parking or its there all the time? If its a blown gasket on your cooling system, do you experience overheating or a drop in the coolant reservior?

I would suggest you bring to autosavers or reviewview for another opinion.

I totally agree with the rest of the bros who advised you to seek a 2nd or 3rd opinion. Go to the independent workshops and check with them.

Hi, a quick update.....

Went to my company car service workshop at AMK Ind Park 2.....the boss upon hearing the sound do not think is gasket head blown....since no coolant leaking, no whitish stains at EO cap, no white smoke from exhaust....

he suspect is the a/c heater problem since sound can only be heard from center dashboard console where the a/c heater is...so he suggested to block water going into the heater and monitor....

will update all again....
