Buying 2007 Latio - 4AT or CVT engine?
« on: January 23, 2010, 03:19:33 AM »

Hi All,

Apologize if this question had been repeated many times, I heard CVT engine is sluggish n powerless n noisy at times, n the used car dealer was trying to persuade me to get 4AT engine. But my colleague mentioned Nissan has since improved on their CVT but I am not sure which year it is.

Anyone care to enlighten me is it true that I should choose 4AT over CVT?  Many many thanks for your contribution!

If your are driving alway at highway, speeding more then 110km/h then CVT is best for you due it is more efficient. City drive I think 4AT is better. If you are purchasing hatchback then CVT maybe better choice due to more accessories like back passager seat can tilt and move and many more....

Me 4AT hatch come with armrest.

CVT has higher maintainence cost if cvt component gives u problem later might also burn pocket so consider carefully besides the features and assessories that comes with cvt

CVT could in other sense give u fuel efficiency if travelling frequently on unconjested highway as opposed to some who associates with with speed and engine rev

just MHO

CVT, 4AT --> Gearbox not engine.

I would prefer 4AT as it has a lower maintenance cost and much more responsive.

CVT drive liao more shiok on cruising.

4AT pick up better.

Depends on ur driving needs... if u everyday like me liddat... tpy-tuas to and fro, u shd get a CVT.

But on the other end, singapore so jammed nowadays, 4AT bah. No diff. I get the jam almost everyday

I was looking for a 2007 Latio sometime back, and I settled for the 4AT. For me, the most important thing to me, as with rontan, was the armrest. My 4AT came with arm rest too

4AT is good for city driving, good response at low speed, but slightly less "shiock" on highway.

If auro transmission is faulty and needs replacement:

4AT can get cheaper reconditioned unit from $3,000

CVT can only get brand new unit costing over $10,000

bro, might to step your accel all the way down hard hard when your car is idle to move forward. If no jerking, get the proof and we show to TCM for refund of thier CVT technology. :D

suggest you book a test drive at tan chong (or any authorised dealers), you are allowed to test drive both one after another on the same day... no need $$

only thing is, i heard the commissions on your purchase (new car) will be "locked" with the SE that served your test drive so other SE may not wanna serve you if you go elsewhere. but if intend to buy used car, no problem  :D

Not true that CVT accelerates more slowly than the 4AT, you get that sensation because when you rev the car, the gear change is SEAMLESS and you don't see the rev needle moving up and down. The linear response makes it feel more sluggish. If you look at performance specs and gear ratios, 0-100km/h is the same I think. The same applies to cars such as the Mitsubishi Lancer EX 2.0, which uses a CVT gearbox as well, it feels 'sluggish' for a 2L car when I tried it out but it was actually quite fast.
