Can latio last for 10 years?
« on: July 01, 2010, 10:36:03 AM »
HI, can an our latio last us for 10 years? I heard friends driving latio who has spent a lot of money to replace their gearbox as well as the air con compressor etc....

my ride is less than 2 yrs old... and there are already problems such as steering coupling problem. (tok tok sound when i drive slow or reverse), raffling sound from my dashboard when in slow speed etc..

i have went TCM to change the steering coupling, but after a few months the problem came back to me again. This is minor problem lah. as for the raffling sound, i am not sure what is the problem...

how long can our gearbox and air con compressor last? i know it depends, but roughly leh?

I make a wrong move, thinking of changing to Latio may give me drive the car for 10 years.
My latio was about 7 months, steering coupling noise, raffling sound from the dashboard etc already happening.
Collected my car with a stain on the "ceiling" etc, get it replaced byTC and end up with here and there scratches.
I doubt we can drive for long esp with the known gearbox and air con compressor issues.

Gearboxes issues, if due to manufacturing faults, should surface within the 3 yr warranty period.

Other than that, air con compressors are wear and tear parts.

If one expects NOT spend money to replace wear and tear parts, then it may be a better option to change car when the warranty period ends, but do expect a huge depreciation, which is way more expensive than replacing the worn out parts.

I cross the 5 years mark. Still happy with it.

other than items stated for replacement on service manual, I changed these item due to wear and tear.

1) Two windor motor module.
2) cooling coil.

Engine sound still good, drive still smooth. little stain and dent are due to human error, not the quality of the material or design problem. I think my Latio should be able to last more than 10 years.

dunno if it can last 10 yrs, but so far so gd.. coming to 4 yrs.
changed a few things here and there,, and now luv the car better than when I first bought it ..

i think its not of whether the car can last 10 yrs or not ( confirm will,..of coz need to replace certain things ) but
whether u can tahan the car for 10 yrs   :bleh: ( even with its funny funny sounds etc etc )

just my 2 cents ..

i think sound here & there is normal for any car due to ageing, I am okay with minor fault such as steering coupling tat does not affect drive or safety, meaning you can still continue driving.

but to say the aircon compressor is due to wear & tear is a bit hard to digest, somemore right at the 3 year mark.

now praying my cvt can last .

imho, brake pads & shock absorbers are wear & tear items, every car also have to replace, should not factor in when considering whether latio can last 10 years or not  ::)

Thanks guy!

I intend to drive my latio till my COE is over.

I first bought this car pretty cheap, cos of the COE. Compared to now, i dont think can ever find this kind of price liao. haha...

When i first heard the tok tok sound within 6 months of my ride, i already very sian liao.. then after that heard this is a manufacturing fault by nissan.. lucky worse..... then..... the raffing sound ....double sian...... then... heard that latio air con compressor and many parts (not wear and tear parts) also not "lasting" .. triple sian.... and these parts are not cheap....

Yes bro,

Imagine we paid ten of thousands of dollars and getting this kind of quality (of cos cannot compared to BMW la)haha..

I used to drive nissan sunny for 5 years, and it does not give me any problem at all. other than the high FC and ruggish engine, i think this car is good.

Sigh, i think i will get the steering coupling and the raffling problem fix before my warranty ends.

Can you or anyone advise:
1)What is "Front lower arm bush"?
2)COuld this be one of the problem that cause the tok tok sound?
2)If i ask TCM to replace, will they change for me FOC?
4) What about raffling?
5)) what could cause this raffing noise?

paisay, ask too much questions. :) hope you can enlighten me

I think this question is dependent on some questions:

1) How well you maintain your care....servicing etc...
2) How to treat and drive your car

These 2 factors will affect the life span of yr car in general.

However, there are alwasy wear and tear parts which all cars will have to change, they are:
1) Air Con compressor and coil etc....
2) Brakes system ..wear and tear
3) gears.......4AT should not be a problem..remember to service and change yr ATF fluid at intervals....

Thanks and have a nice day

All cars can run for 10 years or more. Do not worry so much because it depend on how you take care of your car.

A lot of people always push their to workshop to take care, but do they study what is this, that etc? =) Im still learning tho. =)

Ride coming 5 years. =) Still working fine  :devil2:

It is worth renewing COE for Latio when the time comes, if COE prices are reasonable.

Afterall, Latio scrap value is a pathetic $7,000. Worth foregoing this scrap value to renew COE, if prices of new cars continue to escalate with COE prices and the Jap yen heading North.

not tat rare i think, just expensive if you repair at TCM, go outside workshop can get much cheaper.
