Brakes Jammed
« on: October 03, 2010, 01:20:00 PM »
Was driving and noticed that my wheel was juddering alittle with the car pulling over to one side with slight loss off power

Pulled over and noticed my wheel was extremely hot so my suspicion of wheel weight flying off was ruled off

Went to TCM immediately and they told me my brakes were jammed. Luckily its not jammed in a very tight pull or i can't imagine what would have happened since i was driving in the expressway at that moment

They did a overhaul of my both front brakes and damage was around $170

Did not change brake pads since i just changed mine under NPNT around 8K KM ago

My car's 4.5 years old, millage 109K

Anyone else had similar problem?

My ride also very noisy when i start.. (Alternator or fan belt? how to know which one?). start w/o aircon.. got sound.. on aircon.. sound is LOUDER!! perhaps BOTH? :scared:

EVERY servicing @TCM always got change this and that.. always say this need to change.. that need to change.. how to know what are the necessary things to change?? anyone can recommend which hospital and doctor to go for 'FULL BODY CHECKUP'??

Motosung, you mentioned you just changed your break pad not too long ago at TCM.  Did it occur to you that TCM might not do a proper job, like they did not clean off all the break dust, or install the break pad or whatever mechanism properly that it caused it to jam?  Remember you had did 100k without a single problem, and normally break calippers would not cause problem, because this is the most important portion of a car.

You should have questioned TCM and asked them to explain how and why it jammed after their service.

Just my 2 cents thought.

Just go and change the alternator belt. it cost under SGD50 for the belt then you get a workshop to help you replace it with new. The sound will gone. :)

Due to safety come first, if really the brake pump jammed, it is seriously spoiled and you need it to be replaced rather than repair. Brake jammed will make your car moving like brake is pressed cos brake will not release.

i change my front brake pad myself...never need to clean anything leh... touch wood. LOL

I've not questioned them, and it seems too late now?

I don't know what other problems my Latio is gonna have. I thought i've been through all of them having it for 4.5 years already. Didn't expect the brakes to have any problems especially from a made-in-Jap car like Nissan. No recall needed to solve the problem? To me brakes jamming up is a serious problem

I'm having this issue here fellow Latio drivers please share if you have the same experience. It still exists even after they did the overhaul on my brake system. If i were to jam my brakes really hard from lets say 80 or 100 km/h to a stand still say at a traffic light stop. When the traffic light turns green and i step on the accelerator to move on, it seems like the car has a loss of power for afew seconds. This always happens to me after i jam the brakes real hard from high speed. It's as if the brake pads are stuck to the brake disc or the car for some mad reason doesn't want to accelerate as normal. RPM will be going up but acceleration would be very slow and it takes about 4-6 seconds for it to "recover" to accelerate normally again. I suspect the brakes and surprisingly the "problem" is still there even after the overhaul. Probably i need to get back to TCM on this problem when i go for my 110K servicing next month

a good brake system is a must but try to reduce those jam brake from high speed thing. Let go your pedal at the right time and keep a safe distance.

The 4-6 sec is for you to think are you going too fast and too close.

I don't come across a situation where i need to jam my brakes hard when i'm driving normally on the road

I only press that hard occasionally when i'm driving enthusiastically on an empty road just having some "fun"

If i slowly release towards the very end, which would result in a smoother stop even though i pressed very hard initially, i wouldn't have this problem

My point is i've never experienced this on any other car i've driven before except this Latio

go to another workshop mentioned by some bro here for a check. we can say maybe is the tube, the oil, the pump or the spring etc but you still need a mechanic to verify the cause of the problem. Since TCM can't solve the problem you should try other branch of TCM workshop or just do your servicing outside.

This may not be the cause but since you like to have some fun occasionally, you should consider upgrade your pad to higher temperature grade type instead of changing back to stock pad at TCM.  A bro is selling his Run&Stop curve slot rotor + nano pad at a good price now.
