could be uneven brake pad/disc/drum wear...  mine also has the same sound, but only when lightly braking.  If firm braking no sound...

get the mechanic to inspect the brake pads, etc to be sure...

mine also has tok tok sound when light braking.  But this is due to my slotted rotor.

does the sound come in when u hard brake or tap brake??

if is hard brake then is due to ABS..

i tap brake got sound but is "yeeeeeeee yeeeeee" sound (brake pad wear off).. not tok tok..

if urs still under warranty can bring to TCM.. ask them to sit beside and let them hear wat is the sound..

Hi all,

My approx 4.5 years old Latio got tok tok sound while braking. I had removed all the stuff from my car boost, it does not help.

After sent the car to TCM workshop and they serviced the brake assembly, the sound had gone. I guess your car, may have similar problem!

Now, the new problem is yeee----yeeeee from real, when making turn.

hi, I'm new here.
My Latio(3 yr 10mth) also found having yee yee sound during braking recently. I had to wind down the window in order to heard it. I'm not sure is brake pad or ABS issues.
It is most obvious during after the car is stationary for a few hrs or during morning when left for work. And ideas how much to service the brake issues? I had just gone 55K service 3mth ago.......

ABS come in when u do a hard brake (E-Brake).. did you change your brake pad before?? if not i assume most likely is due to wear and tear on your brake pad.. new brake pad (1 pair) range from 60 to 200+.. depending on the brand and spec..

This is a rare problem and many technicians aren't familiar with. I had it for a long time (the sound got louder by the months till I couldn't stand it no more) and just got it fixed at TC. It took me 4-5 service attempts and lots of road testing (light-average-hard braking, shiong on both human ***puke*** and car)  :crycry:. The sound is like tok tok and sometimes like tong tong coming from the rear and can be felt on the floor board.

Let me give you a few tips:

1. Never let the technician or SA think it's stuffs you keep in the boot. Remove all things including the tools from the boot before you go to TC.

2. They will do a brake servicing first (check brakes, remove brake dust) as safety is a critical issue. This solves problem with consistent (regular interval, pattern) braking tok tok noise but not the random sound I was experiencing.

3. If the sound only happens when you brake and not accelerate, it's not the exhaust. TC adjusted/lowered my exhaust without any improvement.

4. It's not the brake shoe. TC put all the blame on the brake shoe and wanted to charge me $90 (wear and tear item) for a brand new brake shoe even I had a lot left (blardy thick). I signed up NCMP as a result, and changed the brake shoe with no improvement.

5. Next, they will tell you the problem could be the drum and want to do some skimming. This certainly helps a bit and depending on the severity of your problem, and this may fix it. As for me, the tok tok noise only became softer and less often after the skimming.

6. Changed the drum to a new pair and the sound is gone!

i.e. Go straight to the point and ask TC to change your rear brake drum.

Hope it helps somebody! Please leave me a PM as I won't be checking this thread often.

It happen exactly the same to me.

The sound started after they do something to the brake during one of my servicing.

It took me 5 trips to TCM to recify the problem.

After changing the drum and the brake shoe together, problem solved.

Demand FOC service + parts if under 3yrs and 100km. I got it fixed for free but it took me many rounds because TC was "stingy". My advise to you is so that you can avoid having to go through the same tests as I did for nothing :)

Update on e 'yee yee' issue on my car when braking. Went to workshop last week, after checking, the boss say is the brake pad issue( wear n tear) and agreed to change to original nissan brake pad for $145. After changing for a few day, found another problem arise which is 'tok tok' sound during braking. Going back to e workshop and check again, the boss say it may be because rear brake is too tighten n tried to loosen it. But after driving this few day, still can hear very soft ' tok tok' during slow braking. May have to go back to e workshop and check again next week.....

engine pinging and brakes
« Reply #18 on: November 20, 2010, 10:39:29 AM »
i have this engine pinging noise and after i drive to empty tank (fuel guage reaches E) I pump ron98 to full tank and now the pinging noise is gone. Do I still need to send for fuel filter cleaning and engine tuning?

I also notice my front right brake pad is thinner then the left. Ask a mechanic and he say this is normal. Is it true?

Mine same as you. Are you pumping Caltex? According to TC, it's the grade of the petrol and nothing to do with our car
