About Fuel Consumption
« on: May 04, 2011, 03:12:43 PM »
Hi guys,

Just want to know, is it a must to use a full tank to determine the fuel consumption?

I always topup my tank after it drop below the halfway mark, sometimes 3/4 mark.
I got average around 14km/l for half tank, while 3/4 tank seems to be lower at 13km/l..

How I calculate:

- Go to my usual petrol station and same uncle there to top up.
- After topup, take note of mileage before driving off.
- When its time to fill up, go back to same station and uncle and pump full tank
- Take note of mileage driven, then divide by amount of fuel shown on receipt

Is the above method correct?  :bleh: :bleh: :bleh:

Hi fessm, sounds right. I recall i read the similar method. However, if you topup again after just 1/2 or 3/4 the margin of error will be slightly higher. anyway, how did you manage to get the same uncle to pump for you everytime??  ;) I guess if you pump youself it will be slightly more accurate. Some uncle just stop after the first pump click, others will pump again until the second click.  ::)

That station only got a indian uncle, so very easy to remember.
And most of the time i go, there are not many cars, so can choose. hahaha  ::)

I normally calculate my FC from the number of km traveled against the number of litres of petrol required to top up....
