Check Engine Light-CEL / Malfunction Indicator Light - MIL
« on: November 01, 2011, 04:40:56 PM »
Hi Guys,

Recently my latio have this CEL/MIL lighted up and the slow was like 1.5K.  I switch off and on again couple of times and once the light is off, my slow RPM return back to normal around 750-800.

This happens on/off not frequent but it does happen.

Have went to AutoSaver and TC for a dianostic test but they seems cannot find the fault and claim it is the throttle body and the accelerator postion sensor.  Ask why is this so, AS cannot give an answer whereas TC mentioned it might be the K&N filter I'm using.

Solution to this, change the throttle body plus the sensor and use back the original filter.

Any Bros/Sis here could advise where can I get another opinion?  Autoaid or any workshop??

thanks in advance

Regards

Did you install those electronic throttle controller?
I got the same problem after using it for 6 months.
Went to Autosaver Kaki Bukit and they diagnosed the issue to be the controller affecting the circuitry.

I removed it and no longer have this problem.

Hope this helps...

didn't know throttle controller will cause this problem, may I know what brand is yours?

mine is shadow brand and sometimes i do worry about its reliability as compared to the more established pivot brand.

Nope..nothing..everything is stock except my K&N filter and front Struct..not even ICE

Anything else that I should check upon.  Having my K&N for 2 mths till now than the CEL pop up on and off.  After TC so call reset it, have been monitoring..so far so good.  TC mentioned that it is the Throttle chamber error and may due to I use K&N filter which 1st time I ever heard of this cos all my previous car been using K&N

Btw, which autosaver you went and who did you look for?  Able to share contact?

I think quite a few members are using KNN  and everything seems to be alright. I've been on it for the last 80+K.

Nowadays, good products depend on quality and control. If you go to some forums, there are complains that their brand new KNN filter clogged their MAF with too much oil and causes engine CEL on & off frequently. The best is to take out filter and put on newspaper and let it dip dry. I guess there is no such thing as 100% guarantee perfect nowadays.

hello bro_latio33 and spyder_696,

i got the same problem as you described as well, mine is 3.5yrs old latio 4AT,
all stock original parts no modifications.

1) When start to use vehicle at morning, ignition on, cranking sound is there
but then the CEL check engine light will turn on after a while, then engine
RPM drops to 700rpm. Stepping on the accelerator pedal the engine RPM
cannot go up. Change to gear D and step on accelerator pedal the car
move a bit only ,, no power ?

Normally is when ignition on, cranking, the engine would start at 1600RPM
before drop to 1200RPM and change gear to D drive drop to 900rpm step
on accelerator pedal and got power to drive.

Then re-try ignition on a few times 5 times before CEL goes off and the normal
engine RPM at 1000rpm.

2) Yesterday while starting to drive off vehicle after 5minutes the CEL went up
and sudden drop of engine rpm from 1300rpm to 700rpm, though i step on the
pedal still the engine RPM does not go up .. have to restart a few times
then is back to normal.

3) happens already quite often in a couple of months.

I suspect is the throttle body motor dirty or got stuck and cannot flip open ?
thus i took out the stock nissan air filter still red color means clean,
but i still clean a bit using degreaser, blow dry and under sun till dry
and put back.

Could you please update me if you have any findings ?

i brought to mechanic yesterday but he said the CEL is intermittent, he could
only check if the CEL light is on, then i tried a few times still no CEL ..  :confused1:
Intermittent problem.

Started ignition and Check Engine Lamp comes on and off
intermittently  when the CEL is there, vehicle goes
to limp mode and no response after stepping on acclerator,
got to turn off and turn on ignition for 10-20 times before
the CEL is off, then everything works fine.

Went to a mechanic for the Check Engine Lamp issue, diagnose
as P2135 Throttle Valve Position Sensor Malfunction.

The shell mechanic explained the behind the throttle body motor
which detect the flap open and close, ratiometric resistive sensor
may have spoilt.

Anybody got similar experience any comments ?

i got update went to Tan chong Ubi, get checked by OBDII diagnosis
tool, service advisor says the throttle body got to change.

Thus have changed throttle body and the CEL does not come up
anymore. From my last post the throttle valve sensor is behind
the throttle body, they got to change the whole throttle body
cannot just fix the throttle valve sensor.

Total damage : Change throttle body $216.99 sgd + OBDII diagnosis $69.55 = $286.54  :(
heart pain.

After changing for 1month, CEL does not come up anymore.

Since it is intermittent problem when i went during 1st service they
said no problem the mechanic did not do anything just OBDII
diagnosis charge me 69.55.

When i collect car, i switched on and off engine for 20 times,
drive around UBI for 5 times, each time stopping switch off
and on engine. The CEL still comes up and on limp mode go
back to show service advisor problem not solve...

then the service advisor asked to leave car overnight check
next day again where they inform to change throttle body.

just cannot understand why the spring return throttle valve cannot return.. ha ha..
anyway, your cold start idling rpm = ?
mine is around 1.5k maybe until few km later then will drop to 1k or 900rpm..
