when i start the car, there is a "chi chi chi" sound. does it mean the the belt is old and becoming harder thats why thats this sound? if change, how much will that be? 82k mileage.

I experienced the "chit" sound after i changed drive belt for the very first time.  I bought original nissan, but written on it was Made in Indonesia.  Next 2 belts i changed, both also mitsuboshi, made in japan.  After a while the "Chit" sound came back.  I asked the mechanic to tighten the belt, but after a while it came back again.  Even my mechanical engr friend who took a ride from me told me that it is not normal with the "Chit" sound.  3 weeks ago, my  friend told me he actually changed the bearing and the black colour cap(pulley) holding the bearing.  So i asked mechanic to change the bearings and the black colour cap.  He actually changed 2 pulleys, one is at the water pump and the other is the free rolling pulley.  Till now no "Chit" sound.  My mileage now about 78K and car is 3.25 yrs old.  BTW, i need to maintain the car in top condition because when i travel to KL and beyond, i went around 5pm to avoid the jam, and it is still dark for the next 1.5 hrs drive.   BTW, i hope our fellow Lations who are mechanical engineers can throw some light about this.  Cheers.

hi bro, actually without changing the bearing and pulley u can solve the chit sound, the first belt u are using is good enough.with the correct adjustment,it would not create the chit sound.

Hi Kelvin,

U mean the replaced original belt can be further tightened to stop the chit sound.  How about the Mitsuboshi belts, how long do u think they can last?  Thanks.

Is it necessary to change the belt? I had bought my current 2007 ride in 2010 and till now i was never told to change the belt. My mileage is about 104k. FYI, I am getting my servicing done at TCM as I purchased the maintenance package immediately after I had my ride.

Didn't realise, but my car has a loud engine running noise (like a tractor) when I stand outside. Cannot hear when inside the car. My fuel consumption vs mileage has also gotten worse. Could it be an issue of the belt?

Can come over and let me have a look at it. :devil2:it could be other things that caused that noise.

When i acclerate fom stop, i can hear loud squeking sound. The sound will go away after a few seconds and can only be heard when i roll down the driver window.
Is this problem got to do with Fan Belt and Pulley? My latio is coming to six years old.
Anyone facing this problem?

I used to have short squeking sound when I start and when I accelerate off. It seems my fan belt is the culprit. It has dried and has cracked lines. Changed that and all ok now.

Same here. Had a "chi chi chi" sound when starting the car... changed the belt... no more sound already.

Bro, I do have that problem previously, changed a new one previously and they gave me an oem. Well, I didn't know then. So every morning, when I start my car, there's squeaky noise. When I move out of the parking lot, seems like my car is a big whistling bird. For 6 mths, I was frustrated by the diagnosis from the different workshops. From faulty alternator to I didn't step hard on the accelerator to belt tensioner, till finally one mechanic says your belt is most likely not original. Change it and it will go away. And $80 does it.
