High rpm when in low speed
« on: January 03, 2013, 08:53:48 AM »
Hi,

anyone encounter when driving in low speed (from idling to 20km/h & slowly to about 40km/h) and your rpm is about 2k rpm. But sometime is ok, meaning about 1.4K rpm when in 40km/h.
My right foot is always light btw. 2008 year old latio. Mileage about 65K now.

Is there anything that might cause this?
- Engine oil grade (0W30, 5W40..etc)? Using wrong grade?
- Not enough engine oil?

Pls chk whether u hv accidentally activated sport mode or u hv engage to L gear.

I always drive in this way

below 60km/h
really really lightly tap on the accelerator and hold
the rpm that you can get should be 1200rpm

you would get it anymore after 60/h

*you wouldn't get it anymore after 60km/h

if you are patient enough, it actually help save fuel.

I have tested it for a long time

Hi ckmckm,

I try as light as possible on my right foot still unable to achieve 1.2k rpm. Only 1.8K rpm.
Wondering is it due to driving belt change out? Cause recently change my driving belt.

Hi
During the first (normally in morning) trip after overnight parking
Tavelling at 90km/h at 4th gear at 2.5k rpm.
Only after abt 10 mins driving (mayb after warmup)
It will drop to 2k rpm at 90km/h

Mine is 4AT 2006 mileage 180k

Anyone similar?

Cheers ;D

Hi ckmckm, I'm driving a 4AT sedan. Not CVT.

Whether in the morning or afternoon, the result still the same.
From low speed to about 40km/h, hit 1.8K rpm.
But reach 50km/h, back to about 1.6K rpm.

Driven a cvt airwave before and  now a 4AT Latio. Cvt gearbox gives you a smooth ride and driver normally won't feel the jerking effect due to gear change. Rpm is also relatively lower most of time as compared to my current 4AT
When I first got my latio, I have a hard time getting used to it as the gear change is hell of a difference and suddenly I felt that my right feet has become much heavier due to the much higher rpm during driving. Based my my personal experience, I felt that it normal for you to get that kind of rpm. Pardon me if it wrong as it based on my experience only.

Hi all,

Check with you all, what is the rpm when driving at 90km/h & 100km/h?

Mine is 90km/h @ 2200rpm & 100km/h @ 2400rpm. Is it normal?

I have uploaded a video taken while driving from idling to slowly gain speed.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xhfThVwOf88&feature=youtu.be

Anyone encounter this before?
The sudden drop in rpm is I let go of my accelerator in first few seconds.

Thanks.

Check your air fuel ratio, since is an old ride, it could be your trottle body is dirty too.

Recommend to flush throttle and do a ECU reset?

I'm actually try stepping very lightly (feels like the car just rowing) but the rpm still very high.

When will ECU learn your driving style?
There was one time I pump v-power and when moving off, I step on the accelerator so that the speed hit 60km/h faster.
Not sure will this cause the ECU to learn that?
I haven't done any ECU reset.

This really bothers me but my mileages still got half way before I go for my 70K servicing.

Now I have to step on my accelerator till it reach about 55km/h before the rpm drop to about 1600rpm.  :crycry:

Genuine mileage? coz for DOB: year2008 is consider very low.

For such a low mileage,  I trusted nissan will not having such problem.

If not you can bring ur car to our Forum's Kelvin workshop(ERA Auto Pte Ltd) for advice.

Mine cvt Oct 2005 sedan, 90km at 2000rpm and 100km at 2200rpm. If i not wrong, the later latio models more efficient cos 100km/hr at 2000 rpm only.

I've installed e-throttle and set it at EC mode.. From 0km/h to 40km/h my rpm is roughly at 1600-1800rpm... 40km/h to 80km/h rpm is roughly at 1800-2000-2100rpm.. Sometimes when doing 100km/h rpm is 2000-2200rpm.. If I would to pick up and maintain at 110-120km/h my rpm would be 2200-2400rpm.. All this reading is with e e-throttle set to EC mode..

Hi Alvin, Pardon me for being a noob .... I'm driving a Sedan Latio 1.5LT 2006 ... how do I install e-throttle and set EC mode? How much will it cost?

I believe this is known as overdrive in the auto box. when you're still accelerating, your torque converter will be on normal mode and once your reach a higher speed, when there is lesser load on your torque converter, it switches into overdrive mode. This is when the torque converter locks up and becomes more efficient but only on highways and low load situations. Anyone with a better explaination, please.

Hi Desleyhan, sorry for e late reply. I got my device at defu lane one of the car workshop. I'm not so sure how to set as it was setup by my friend. But it's quite simple. There's a connector at e acceleration pedal. Just bypass it with e device and connect the power (the port whr they reset ecu). Power up the car(do not start engine) and ur device. Then u will need to set e device by stepping e acceleration pedal fully. I think u will hear a beep sound. Then u are good to go. Hope this can help u. (If not , u can ask e guy at e workshop to setup for u)
