Nissan Latio engine overheat ??
« on: February 23, 2016, 03:49:19 PM »
Hi fellow Latios user ,

I just changed into a sales job and my job will need me to travel around Singapore very frequently. Delivering and pitching sales . I can be driving "start and stop" up to 6 hours per day.

I seek the forums advise, will such long hours on the road led to engine overheating ? And what are the indicator should my Nissan Latio gets overheated.

I services my car a few month back and not yet reach the next 10k Milage.

Please advise ...

Q : Will such long hours on the road led to engine overheating ?
A : No.

Q : what are the indicator should my Nissan Latio gets overheated?
A : Refer to speedometer on the left gauge, beside 'Cruise' and 'Set',
the best is to refer owner manual.

Q : What is the cause led to engine overheating?
A : Frequently, Radiator leak, Fan motor. Sometime water pump, Thermostate.

Q : Will such long hours on the road led to wear & tear more faster then usual?
A : I will say Yes, but I don't have data to prove that I am right.

Thanks bro for your reply. Guess I will go for preventive servicing more often to make sure that things are in order.

Latio got Cruise & Set???

There is a Blue thermometer that lights up during engine cold start and goes off abt 2mins later.....make sure that if you see RED thermometer lights up, stop car safely and call for tow to workshop....this is sign of overheating.....

Thanks Bro for your reply. When the red Thermometer lights up, it shows signs of overheating but have not "overheated" right ?

Can I also check in your own Latio experience, have you encountered this before ?

yup that is correct....so once light is ON, stop safely and call for tow...dun try to drive to workshop....

as long as you do preventive maintenance regularly and self check on a weekly basis eg. check coolant level, signs of leaking etc......it should be good enough.....

for me, the only time i found coolant leaking was when i do my weekly check in my carpark every sat morning....reservoir was empty.....then found that radiator was leaking slightly when engine running...was fortunate that i did not drive out with family yet....

no red thermometer appear....

my car is now 10.8 yrs old....after renewing 5yrs coe last may

Sorry to hijack the thread.  Just to check, I have just bought a latio recently and noticed that the Radiator reservoir is also dried.... :(  I have checked already... No sign of leakage.... The radiator/aircon fan is also working... I have read about this relay thingy...  Anyone have also encounter this before?

Have anyone replace just the relay?  And how much will it cost?

Please help.... Thxs.....

open radiator cap to see if got coolant inside (when engine has cooled down). if yes, topup the reservior with water and monitor

leakage can be from the thermostat as well

see if top of radiator has any sign of coolant seeping out when engine is running....it maybe cracked like in my case.....

Thanks for the prompt response bro.... I have top up the water in the reservoir last sunday but it was dried yesterday when I checked it....  As for the radiator, there dun seems to have any sign of leakage.  :(  All I can suspect is the fan for the "HI" speed is not working...  Any other clue?

Hi,
Since you top up the water on sun and dried up on Wed....there sure be somewhere leaking....

Top up again and wait for 1-3hrs or best over night....then observe the floor.....if there is a pool of water then is leaking....

Before that make sure the radiator water is full....

Try to look from bottom....

look at the top of the radiator top when engine is running.....see if got any coolant seeping out from there

check that the radiator inside has coolant as well....

last time my leakage did not form any pool of coolant under the car...it was seeping out when car is running due to radiator top part fine crack...

If the water is dried or empty, need to buy a bottle or can of coolant and mix with water, if just top up with tap water, even no leak still will evaporate.
