tickling noise during morning start
« on: April 06, 2008, 01:57:20 AM »
Hi guys,

My 2 mths old 4AT sedan got a tickling noise whenever i start my car in the morning or whenever the engine is cold, after the rpm become normal and the blue light goes off.Just had my 5k servicing and highlight to TCM,what they did was to tighten the aircon belt and lubricate it,which TCM believe is the cause. But after i collect my car,the tickling noise is still there:confused1:Anyone got this experience of tickling noise during cold start? ;)

I also got some kinda noise during morning start which will go away after a while. Sounds like some belt driving by the pulley sound. (Dunno how to describe) Guess its normal for latio ??

Good thing is so far nothing seem to be going wrong beside the sound :)

Thanks for sharing your experience everyone.Looks like it's a live with it problem :nonod:Anyone went to TCM and what was the assessment?

My noise came after i stress my car in NSH, :bleh:but i think it shouldnt be the cause.futher more, its a Jap make car, certain standard must be maintain. This got to be futher trouble shoot by TCM when i got time n park my car there for 3 hours. :D

This morning i started my car with the boot open and try to see where the noise is from, but cant locate it :(.Only thing i find out is the speed of the tickling noise will noise when i step on the accelerator. :confused1:

I not sure, see if this help. If you parked in MSCP, usually morning considered quite cool, just on the fan, while you going out of the MSCP, then you switch on the air-con, let us know if this solve your problem.  ;)

Now that Jazz mentioned this...i think it helps...i have been driving off in the morning without aircon for the past few weeks (to save petrol) and i dun recall hearing the noise recently.....

Let me try to check again tomorrow..cos when i dun on aircon i will wind down the window...so maybe the ticking sound is covered by other noise from outside..

been busy recently. Thanks for the tips, but the tickling sound was there even before i start my aircon or fan.it was even obvious when the blue icon goes off.had experiment once, the sound will be gone after good 15 mins of engine running, which is "UNACCEPTABLE" to me... :(

Hi guys, just to share my experience.i highlight my problem during my 5k servicing at Toa payoh and TCM lubricate and tighten the belt. When i collect my car, still can hear it.No choice, maybe due to the noisey enviroment and time to cool down the car, i accepted and decided to monitor.

The next day when i start my car,the sound was still there...till today i was free,i go down to ubi to get TCM to further rectify.THis time round,i left my car there in the morning and collect before service centre close, hoping TCM can hear the sound when engine is cold. Not too sure whether did they manage to hear it,anyway TCM adjust the belt which the advisor says it might be too tight the last round when toa payoh TCM adjust, it seems to be guiding me that the sound is a belt tension problem.

I will know later when i start my car in the morning, will update again.anyway i complain to TCM about wiper judder problem,so the wiper was replaced out of good will and wind screen polish, which the advisor says it might be due to i sent my car for polishing? :confused1:End up i collect a dirty car back, not clean up after doing the so called "wind screen polish".No choice, send my car for preservation wash :crying:

I also have this problem which I highlighted on my 20k service. TCM tightened the belt but sound still appear after a few days but softer. Made friends with a guy driving Selphy during my servicing and he also highlighted this problem to the adviser.

I used to have this sound when i drive my old altis.
Only happen during the morning cold start.
Send back to agent and they manage to get it fix by tightening some belt.
I guess Borneo engineers are better at trouble shooting.

Lucky i dont have this problem for my latio

Guys i tolerated this sound since about 20K...it was worst when it rained heavily & i think rain got into the engine...anyway i did my 40K (@44K..bit late) & pushed for a solution. Solution =$75!! they changed the VB belt...cost like 35 & $40 for lab.

No more morning whinning sound for me.....

Technically the sound appears in the morning & disappears later in the day...only heard it bad when it was raining heavily in Singapore

Anyway...VB belt,...hope that helps.... i googled this saw an artcile on how to fine tune....honestly TCM may have a mechanic who can do this..but bet you 9 out of 10 times they probably saw the belts worn out & needs a change!!

Hi Sambal,

May i know wat is VB belt? My friend suggest to me it might be the tappet clearance which causes the noise.ANy views? Btw my latio have a 'gong' sound when i was about to stop and turn the steering 1/4 round for parking in MSCP,anyone have this experience?

Hermis,
I saw this at Nissan site

http://www.nissan.com.sg/service/stips.cfm

V-BELTINGS Benefits/Comment:
Properly tensioned V-Belt ensures quiet and safe driving as major components such as water pump, power steering pump, alternator & aircon compressor are belt driven.

If you google some results:

http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&client=firefox-a&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official&hs=xln&sa=X&oi=spell&resnum=0&ct=result&cd=1&q=V+belt+timing&spell=1

Sorry me not so technical depend on webbie & others...after changing my belt the noise has dissapeared
