Screeching sound from engine when cranking up car
« on: September 02, 2010, 05:00:03 PM »
Recently I changed my fan belt during servicing.
After that, there is always this screeching sound from engine bay when cranking up car.  The sound will disapper when I stop cranking the car.  No sound when engine i running/ driving.
Should I be concerned?
Too lazy to go back WS to check.  Tks for the advice.

This is due to the belt not tighten properly.
Just go back to WS and they will tighten it.

If not u have to bear with this noise every crank.

Tks.  Will there be any long term issue if the belt is not tighten?

Just to share, I did it at SMRT Auto.  Cost of fan belt: $70 + $50(labour).

The noise is due to the fan belt. Mine was changed during servicing at TC. I didn't request for them to change that. Only noticed it after getting the invoice. Since I'm on NPNM program, no charge. Now I don't hear that noise at morning.

Next time buy the original belt from stockst.  Think our latio belt cost around 30 plus.  Labour range from 10 - 30
depending on which WS.

For me i always buy one spareone as belt normally last around 60k.  So when doing major service at autosaver, can request
them to change at no charge.  If they do charge, it is 30.

according to my friend, if it does not irritate you so much, leave it as it is. If not, it might do a little harm tho.
I chose to leave it until the sound is getting too loud. =)

I had it tightened once and it is now back again.
