Myth on poorer FC after servicing
« on: April 09, 2008, 02:26:31 PM »
Sian ah!  I experience the myth of poorer FC after servicing.  Average FC before service was 14 km/litre.  After service, now getting only 12.5km/litre.  Hope it will improve back to 14 km soon.

Hi Bro, my case got no change leh.  Same job, meaning same travel distance and pattern during weekdays.  Weekends activities also same (such as visit parents, go town look see look see).  Hence, don't know why the drop lor.  How do you calculate the percentage change?

I experience the same thing also. I'm on the first tank after 10K km service (the 3rd FOC one).

This ******** half tank only give 170km , normally around 200km. travelling route never change.

Somemore, I request to change to the best syn engine oil (0W30) from TC, paid $80+ for it.
I was told by them this 0W30 will give best FC.

Are they cheating? :out:

The first full tank right after my first servicing is performing really well! However, this time round, I really put a conscious effort to keep the RPM at 2000 and below and I manage to clock 300km at half tank. Dunno if it's due to after servicing or due to maintaining at low RPM, but one thing I'm sure is that servicing did not made it worse.

Just send mine into Sparkcare for 40k servicing since it was covered under TWM warranty, no choice. Tell them I wanted 5w40 and when they print out the invoice, 5w50 was poured in. Now, mine felt sluggish when moving off, previously was using 0w40. Now monitoring my FC. Damn.

i oso using 5w50 now, average 15km/l. best was 16.4km/l. Planning to change to thinner oil to compare.

5W50 is way too thick for Latio.

5W50 is best suited for older cars or turbo charged engines.

'40' is the right choice.

You should ask them to drain out the 5W50 engine oil.

yeah, it's thick judging by the slower move off now. well, i should have but i guess it's too late. the package allows between shell and mobil. For Shell it's 5w 40, so wanted mobil 0w40 on the picture since previous owner was using it, they say cost more. then settled for the mobil thinking it's should at least be the same as shell. but then, they put in 5w50. sigh... really didn't think in the interests of their customer.

Previously my FC is average 15km/l too and my best record is 17km/l++. Now dropped to 10-14km/l range, depending how long i can stand for 90km/h.

I am using Toyota Fully Synthetic Engine Oils 5w40 since day 1 (I seldom try to over 170km/h). I only use Nissan Fully Synthetic Engine Oils for my last service and it can hit 180km/h (I tested on last Sunday when I see a motorbiker laying on his motorbike, with two feets pointing the sky, on NSHW).  :D

u wan good fc use w20 instead but dun expect much protection for ur engine esp if u like to loot ur car past 6k rpm on every gear change or maintain above 16Okm/h

i ever tried 0w20 and I can assure you that it is not a very good idea.

5w40 is comfortable range tho. As pizzaboy mentioned, protection of your engine.

If car is stock and normal driving in singapore, w20 is good.  If I remember correctly, w30 is recommended for Latio.
w40 or w50 is already too thick.

For engine protection, viscosity is only part of the equation.
Getting good engine oils (good =/= expensive) and maintaining your oil change frequency is equally important.
