What should I look out for in car insurance?
« on: July 30, 2008, 03:56:41 PM »
Hi everyone,

My insurance plan with AIG is ending soon.
I am wondering if I should continue with AIG.

In getting a car insurance, what are the things that I should look out for?

hmm... get a few quotations to compare the prices and the coverage lo.. some of them dun cover windscreen.. others do.. then also compare the benefits.. like use of vehicles etc.. oso check the location of their authorised workshop.. i guess...

OK - I went through the whole crap...
... I decided not to stick to the same insurance company - so I send out a lot of emails, sms etc to the folks at the forum here or at delphiforums.com to ask them to quote....

these are insurance brokers and they will get u the best quote... however....
you MUST be very specific in your requirements.

Here were mine:
1 $0 excess
2 Full NCD protection (very important)
3 Full windscreen cover
4 Workshop (authorized vs own vs agent ie TanCheong)

Ask the quote to be given ONLY with these conditions, esp 1,2 and maybe 3.
Then u can make a comparision

depending on the timing, some insurance company maybe having promotion ... my differences can be as high as $1000!

U can try to call this guy andrew 91011212

Usually if your insurance gives you 0% excess & allows repairs at agent, the premium will cost more.

It's more about dollar and cent. You get what you paid. So priority is import.

Indeed the premium do cost a little more... but when an accident happens... it will cost a lot more....

Set yr priority first, for instance, for me:

a. I dun mind paying some excess (it will lower my premium)
b. Unlimited windscreen replacement (windscreen very vulnerable, if u unlucky, will hit by stone etc and crack)
c. location of workshop (convenience issue)

if u everything also want, for e.g replacement car, bla bla bla... then premium will be higher...
