Strange sound from hard acceleration.
« on: July 20, 2008, 05:38:59 PM »
When I accelerated hard from 60kph to 120kph I can heard off-pitch "vroom", like crackling sound. RPM is like 4-5K when I hear the sound. If my ICE is on, the sound will be from the speakers, if I off the HU, sound like comes from the front. The strange sound was very loud with my stock car battery, but with my recent battery change, the sound was not that loud. It's not aeroplane sound.

Can expert offer solutions to elmimate the sound?

I suspect your engine ECU may need some tuning.

try not to accelerate hard. usually rpms is around 3 to 3.5 is sufficient
rem this is auto car and not sport racing car. Our latio engine is 1.5 only
cheers

Like that might as well don't drive the car, park it at home and there is no noise. Engine must rev or not it will get choke up.

In such times of expensive fuel, I think if one can well afford the expensive fuel bills, more frequent engine & gearbox oil changes and sooner spare parts change, .there is absolutely no harm to rev or redline your engine frequently.

Occasionally you need to hard rev to clear away stubborn carbon. But I still yet to redline yet.

Yup, i rev quite hard occassionally to clear the carbon in the exhaust too...a few times hit the redline slightly... :devil2:

Can share what is the duration of the redline period?  Just touch and go, or hold there for longer?

I don't think anyone driving at AUTO Latio can "hold on" at the redline on the tachometer, unless you are driving a manual, whereby you drag and hold on to redline on the 1st and 2nd gears.

If you can hold on to the redline on 4th gear on auto, I think you'd be way above the legal speed limit.

But I had tried putting gear to neutral while car is stationary, and rev up to redline and hold it on there. The engine started vibrating violently. That was over a decade ago on a MINDEF Mitsubishi Lancer 1.3 stationwagon   :devil2:

Hi Bro, if touch and go on the redline for Latio auto car, don't think it will be effective in clearing the exhaust, right?

"The strange sound was very loud with my stock car battery, but with my recent battery change, the sound was not that loud."

Does it has to be with my electrical setup? I need a higher AH battery?

You mean you get the sound whenever you rev to 4K - 5K region? And the sound comes thru your speakers? Think it's time to get you ICE wiring Checked.

My ICE amplified the noise. If I off the ICE, also can hear the noise. With my new FB battery, noise was not as loud as my stock Panasonic battery.

Today sent car to TCM, SA couldn't simulate the noise. I have to make another appointment to demo to SA. TCM got no "runway" to test, but then...my tissue box & pandang leaves dropped onto the floor when I collected my car.  my poor latio..must have suffered much abuse..:crying:

Bro, OD Off is like holding in 3rd gear, got to on OD after accelerating or you FC will suffer.

I use OD to rev till rpm btween 4-5k and hold for 10 mins to clear carbon.  Do this abt once/mth.  Speed will be from 110-130km/hr with OD. ;D

How can the ride be smootehr when Overdrive (OD) is off.

This means your car is cruising on 3rd gear.

Cruising in 3rd gear cannot provide a smoother ride than 4th gear.

Hi,

By default, O/D is on. When u press the small button on the auto gear "stick", will change it to off. By pushing to off will increase your FC.
