recommend engine oil
« on: July 14, 2008, 11:10:49 PM »
HI All,

My 3year old is going soon for her 90K servicing and i was thinking of change the engine oil to either amsoil or redline.

Pls advice which will be better and the grade to use.

I was thinking of 10w-30 for 90K and 10w-40 for 100k onward.

any thoughts & suggestion ?

Some motorists claim that 10W30 gives better mileage, but I have always stuck to 10W40 (even for new engine) for the better protection it gives for our hot and humid weather.

Hi ... The manual will recommends SAE 30 as min.

I used to use SAE 40 (Mobil 1 Gold) until 80K service (70K i finish my Mobil 1 Gold in one shot) which I switch to SAE 30 (Amsoil) mainly for cost reason.

There are lots of bro here uses 30 or 40. Both are fine. 40 will offer better protection especially if you travel longer distance like to malaysia etc. Else 30 should be fine in Singapore environment. Since I only travel to Malaysia once a year .. I choose 30 for lower cost reason ( Mobil 1 Gold is around 80 while 4 quart of Amsoil is less than 60) ...

I usually stick to single brand and type. So that the leftover can be reused for the next service. In 3 to 4 service ... you will have a least save one time purchase of oil for a service.
Car Changed .. No more Latio.....
