I have used Hurricane drop-in filter for 3 years and it never rusted.

Oxidation? Stainless should not rust.

Have you ever seen your stainless steel fork and spoon rusting?   :bleh:

Eh, actually got. Stainless steel is not rust proof only rust resistant. Technical name for SS is CRES, Corrosion Resistant Steel.
SS is especially prone to corrosion if left in contact with water. Unlike normal steel, it does not react with water in the air but if continuous left in contact with water, it will corrode.
That's why there is some truth in drying your utensils. It keeps them rust free. Maintains hardness of SS knives as well.
Salt is another culprit. SS corrodes rapidly in salty environment. I stay in Pasir Ris. My leatherman rusts, my WMF knives rust, that's why have to make sure they are all dried before putting away.
So in short, I am not surprised the filter rusts.

it says we should wash it after every oil change.. 5k or 10k.. i have never ever washed it b4.. lol..
Necessary evil....
Needs to be washed to remove dirt to prevent blockage. You will also be surprised how corrosive dirt can be. I used to work in company who services aircraft heat exchangers. The units can last 20,000 hours or more with regular cleaning but without the cleaning, it will need to be replaced at about 10-12,000 hours because of leaks caused by corrosion.
However, I call it a necessary evil becuase if it is not dried properly after cleaning, then will cause corrosion also.

If you ask me, stick to stock and replace every 10,000. Hehehehe
Large pore filters like Hurricane allow higher flow rates which is good for performance but lets more crap through as well....
I have to keep my car for 10 years (and maybe more) so.... Preserving the engine more important.... Still believe in trusty fibres for filtering. ;D

BTW, I do like K&N but the cost of the filter and the thought of needing to re-oil every now and then put me off....

use first to see if you like the feeling....then u can go and buy.

but, my suggestion is for u to bring ur car to service, and get them to SCRUB CLEAN THE THROTTLE BODY.

if my guess is correct, during idling, ur car vibrates slightly more than b4? Do an engine flush as well

100% agree!  ;D

When I was using Hurricane drop-in filter, I noticed the engine oil gets dirty faster, compared to using stock air filter.
