« on: August 14, 2008, 02:09:29 AM »
Hi all,

how do i get rid of the stale aircon smell from the first gush of air everytime i turn on my aircon (either in morning/afternoon/night) after parking for some time?    Its goes away after about 3-5 seconds though...

any suggestions would be most appreciated.  :)

Most cars have this problem.

You can change your air con filter or get your air con evaporator cleaned by the professionals. They will spray some kind of chemical foam on it.

You can do an air con flush at -

You sure Tan Chong will replace air con filter for you at every 10,000km servicing?

I thought it's at every 20,000km service interval?

And you have to pay for air con filter. It is not included in the package, not even for NPMP.

It costs $70+ I think.

i'm confused... so is the air con filter included or not included in the NPMP servicing schedule ?

am not thinking of changing it myself at the moment cos my car is 2 months plus old...  a bit early to be changing aircon filter.

The charcoal filter may restrict air flow, whcih means you may have to turn your air con fan speed to 2 instead of 1.

Guys/Gals,

You can try this if you have not done your cabin heater bypass, don't have to do it every day hoh, I do it once a while when I get the smell. Open all the doors, turn on your air-con, turn the heater up to max and air speed to max, let it run for about 5 minutes and switch the air mode around so that the hot air goes thru all the ducts for a short period of time.

Huh? you mean they replace aircon filter for EVERY servicing. According to the maintenance booklet and the service report so far, this task isn't performed for 1000 and 5000.

Can someone pls clarifies?

Don't mix up air filter and cabin air filter. Engine air filter is replaced during servicing and is part of NPMP or other heavy maintenance packages. Cabin air con filter is never part of any service package. Want them to change, they will ask you to take $140 aircon service package.

Do that for about 3 to 5 minutes. stay outside the car and bring the car back to about 30 deg before shutting down.
