Bouncy Ride
« on: August 16, 2008, 02:34:56 PM »
The stock suspension of our latio is very bouncy. It rocks like a boat whenever I'm making a slow turn at a rather uneven road of a junction. Is there anyway that TC can do some adjustment to the suspension to stiffen the spring of our suspension ?

Can, if you complain enu times to them and they will do it but it will sacrifice the comfort of your ride as it will feel more bumpy due to the stiffening of the springs.

Latio body is tall so body roll is unavoidable.

If you want better comfort, after market shocks like Monroe is recommended.

Tyre pressure 240 / 220. The bumpiness not so obvious in straight road and highway. Still miss my previous vios stock suspension.

Has this been always the case or just recently? If just recently, your shocks are worn. Go back to TCM to complain. They may change it f.o.c if car still under warranty.

pressures ok
so, it could be shock absorbers/dampers as pointed out by aerosignal

go to TCM
they will probably bring the car for a road test
if at Bt Timah, will be going over quite a number of "speed" humps
you can always ask to go for this ride with the technician

DIY - press down (and release) on the bonnet and boot to see which damper is not working well
Be safe. Go with the flo.

The bumpiness is always there since the first day. Is it that there is no problem at all, only that I compare with my previous ride ?

The DIY to press down and release the boot has no problem. It doesn't bounce up and down.

For those who stays near the NTU area, maybe you can make a right turn at the T junction of jurong west st 92 into pioneer road north, just opp the city harvest church, to see if you experience the same as me.

then maybe is ok
but to confirm, you can have it check when you next go for servicing at TCM

Thanks to all bros for the comments and suggestions. I'll probably go to TC and highlight to them and see what they say. Maybe it's just our ride that have high c.g.

Would changing to a bigger rim reduce the problem, cause more traction to the road ?

It may... Tires may be considered to be part of suspension system. When rim sized is increased (lower tire profile), effect is like installing stiffer springs.
Reduces roll but at cost of comfort.
Your problem got nothing to do with traction (or the lack thereof).

Cannot lah. Stock rims are R15 (15 inch radius).
205/50 have to go to 16" inch rims. Hehehehe *Poison*... :devil2:
Anyway, you need larger rim size (16 in vs 15 in), not wider tires (205 is 205mm wide vs stock 185 mm wide).

At most your stock rims can take is 195/60R 15 tyres.
