Basic driving habits
« on: June 23, 2009, 04:33:04 PM »
Hi All,

Pls advise info and individual habits on;

1) The reason for turning off radio/aircon before shutting down the car?
2) The reason for turning the ignition to ON position, wait a few seconds before turning to START. Or not necessary at all?
3) Air con settings, auto mode or manual? Temp settings? Will it affect the wear and tear for aircon/compressor?

So that at your next startup, u dun stress the engine and power surge your audio equipment

U will see some indicator lights going off, forgot what are those. I believe energising some parts of the car before cranking it helps prolong the life span os something in the car. Then again, no harm cranking right off either. just your car component may wear faster

3) Air con settings, auto mode or manual? Temp settings? Will it affect the wear and tear for aircon/compressor?

I always use manual, auto will blow at high speed, waste petrol

1. To lessen the battery drain during your start up  => prolong your battery life.

2. To check warning lights are functioning => assure that warning light will light up when problem occurs.

3. Auto/Manual just control the fan speed, will not affect the compressor.

What I know is what my SE and mechanic told me.

1. Aircon: prolong yr compressor life span. Radio: effect not significant.

2. Necessary. Our car also like a big computer, has some electronics function and wiring. so it's for registering those functions to link the car i.e. those warning lights that turn on and went off after a sec or 2.

3. Basically the same between Auto and Manual except that Fan Speed that makes the whole differences. Auto will try to match yr temp setting in hot weather in the quickest time possible so the fan speed usually is very high depending the inside temp. So that means it will drain yr batt and petrol faster.
