Grr Grr
« on: August 06, 2009, 12:24:58 AM »
I've recently been hearing this GROWLING (Grr Grr Grr Grr...) noise, not sure from the front or back of the car. This only happens at 2nd and 3rd gears at around 2 - 2.2k RPM. The noise becomes louder when I step harder on the accelerator but disappears when the gear shifts down (RPM goes up). I'm not sure where this noise comes from but have a feeling it's from the exhaust.

Mine's 4AT -- the Grr Grr sound only happens at 2nd to 3rd gear at RPM 2k to 2.2k

Transmission problem?

Does it sound like those taxi grr sound? Maybe engine air filter too dirty?

Sounds like a noisy taxi engine without the vibrations... grrrr grrrrrr
something in between water/bubble and metal sound
a little like the exhaust pipe shaking under the car

Funny thing is that this only happens at 2k - 2.2k rpm (second-third gear) and is muffled when the rpm goes above or below that range. I'm thinking could this be a transmission problem? You know when you drive a manual car, when the speed is insufficient (say 20km/hr) then you put on 2nd gear and step hard on the accelerator, it stresses the gears...

Very difficult to diagnose unless we hear the noise.

Suggest you send to Tan Chong to check if car is under warranty.

Go tan chong, if they say normal, ask them to "demo" that sound on other latio. They sure have some other latio doing servicing there right?

If Tan Chong uses other customer's car to demo and gets found out, it will be in breach of the servicing terms and Tan Chong risks legal action taken against them, in extreme cases.

It is advisable for Tan Chong to use their test drive car to demo, if necessary.

bro, the SE will start other latio engine for servicing too, nothing wrong to take a look with your SE right? Not that you are going to test drive it.

TCM sure have new Latio and demo latio for test but those may not be the same as other on-the-road latio around the same year as pmet's. TCM will say "new car dun have the sound but drive over a year will have, normal one". That's why you need to take a look at other latio but not those new one.

pmet says "This only happens at 2nd and 3rd gears at around 2 - 2.2k RPM" when he is driving, so if Tan Chong ues another customer's car to test, it means they would need to drive it to experience if there's the Grrr sound.

Hi

Could it be the air in take sound? It will happen if using lower grade of petrol such as 92 UL. Alternately, try to tighten the fan belt. Sometime it help.

Never heard of this before. Using lower octane petrol got this sound? Where you heard of this?

Anyway Latio can take anything above 91, so shouldn't be this bah.

I use Shell 95 so fuel shouldn't be a problem. Tried tightening the fan belt with no improvement  :(
