Recall Campaign - Inspection of Steering Shaft
« on: October 24, 2009, 09:26:34 AM »
I received a letter stating that my ride is affected by this recall campaign to inspect the Steering Pinion Shaft to ensure it is properly secured and tighten to factory recommended torque and specification.

Intend to undergo this inspection come my 30k servicing next month.

Just have a few questions in mind:

1. What is the safety impact for improper position and torque to the Steering Pinion Shaft?

2. I already own this car for more than 2 years. If there is a safety impact, then what compensation can the affected drivers seek for this quality deficiency?

Since you are putting up this post, I assume that so far nothing has happened. However, if something happened due to that deficiency from now until your car is inspected, they can refute your claim for compensation because they had already notified you in writing to send your car for inspection but you chose to wait until next month.

hi,...
recently i heard some noise like "ta..ta..ta.." after turning my steering to the left and return to normal position while my car is maintain at low speed...

Is this normal? has it got anything to do with the problem stated here?

but occassionally the sound is not obvious.. worry that when i send in to TCM and they cannot hear anything.

I got this problem too, initially wasn't obvious but now it happens too often. Will inform TC abt it on my next servicing. I ride only 8 mth old.

The 'ta...ta...ta...' is normal when you are turning your steering wheel for example when making U-turn. When there is 'ta...ta...' sound, the turning signal light will go off automatically when you complete the turn and steering wheel returned to normal position. If there is no 'ta...ta...' sound (for small turn), the turning signal light will not go off.

the ta...ta...ta... sound does not come from the signal lights.. it was the turning the steering time...
even i dun do signalling, sometimes i heard this sound too.. :confused1: :confused1:

I just changed mine during the 30k servicing. Apparently, it was the steering coupling that was causing the "tuk tuk tuk" sound when i turn left or right.

Think i slam the steering wheel too hard to the left and right when reversing. Got to be gentle...

Was told that during U-turn or reverse parking, as long as you don't fully turn (lock) the steering to the left/right, the steering coupling won't damaged so fast.
