Went up to KL last week. When going back to s'pore during the daytime(weather was rather cool actually), I was travelling at 170km/h will four people in the car including driver with full load of luggage. So I could say the load was almost full
At 2 points, when I did a hard braking at 170km/h, there was a loud noise which sounds like engine braking similar to Subaru boxer engine note but my RPM was normal. The brakes was working fine and the steering wasn't vibrating. Braking power was not compromised also. Out of panic, I did interval braking.
Checked the brake pad is still sufficient. Dunno about the disc brake. Anyway, did any of you ever had such experience? Where could possibly be the noise come from? Need your opinion on this. Till now, my brakes are working fine actually.

Could it be the ABS working?
-
When ABS kick in, u dun only hear sound, u can literally 'feel' it, strongly...
-
wow wow well done for 170km/hr
-
i dont know wat to say abt u with full load n u still do 170 personally i dont think thats possible coz i floored the padel can do only 160
anyways when i do 160 i had a clear n far view n ensured no vehicles ard me before doing that n it was only for less than 5 mins
however u took the risk in a manner that not only endangered your own n passenger but those ard u as well
quite frankly it was not a hard braking at all, else u wont live to write this
watever the reason i dispise n look down upon people who drive recklessly they are in my eyes no more than jackasses. yes speed is thrill but until the day lives are wrecked in ur hands because of your folly its too late n sadly life is not a video game there is no restart button to choose
i am thinking a loud n no interest in further flamming

can you share why u suddenly did hard braking at 2 points..
this could tell us where the sounds comes from...

one can literally hit this speed if u dont put your eye on the speedo on NSHW...
but for sure latio sedan is not as stable as my previous mit lancer 2003 model..

I only able to hit 150 kmh yesterday from Tampin to JB on Michelin GR90. Quite stable compare to Lance GDI CVT version leh. Think the typre play a part also.

Think his previous tyre is Michelin la.
Should be Bridgestone Turanza GR90. ;)

It is possible to go beyond 150 km, I did it on my Hankook V12 on 16" Rays Rim. No issue, wouldnt recommend it though, braking at such speed is juz plain silly and dangerous.
-
All hell driver here.. i hardly go beyond 110km... Going to 170km/hr is damn fast and to hard brake... cannot imagine
-
Normally i stay around 110, but when i do overtaking, i can't stay at 110 because the big cars in NS highway will flash their lights at you. U can spot tour buses doing 140 easily. BTW the CVT latio listed top speed is 180. If tyre pressure is correct, tyre alignment and balancing is good, plus routine servicing properly done, U can hit 170 easily. Latio has quite high CG and easily affected by cross winds. I have also noticed the brake disc are quite small compared to other cars. I have also noticed that at around 100km/hr, it takes a while to do emergency stop as compared to my previous manual sunny. Hope u guys shed some lights about safe driving with Latio. I respect those guys with good knowledge about defensive driving, especially Latio. Cheers.

High CG only affect you during hard or sharp bend and corner, straight still O.K, it not really that high if you compare with MPV and SUV.
I do agree on the braking thou, but you can opt to change to a bigger rotor, I still thinking of changing still till date. :D
Anyway, I on 17" wheel, together with coilover and strut bars ( kiasu and kiasi ), so far still satisfy about the handling and performance of my car. Average still able to maintain 13km/l.

Just an advice. When travelling along NSH at open space, watch out for wind shear if you are traevelling at high speed (150 km/r above), you may feel the car not moving straight, you better start to slow down. Getting crash at 170km/h will be much worse that recent Ferrari accident at Bugis.
-
Thamks all for your advice... The brakes actually overheat especially the disc when i prolong the brake and thus making that vibrating noise. ABS is ok. No more travelling at 170km/h which the car can actually achieve but that was a one time experience. Now i maintain 140km/h tops... not more than that especially now i have top roof rack with luggage system.
