understand that our stock tyre is 185/65R15

I have intention to change to 16" rim after i collect my car. the best match is 195/55R16.
however, not many tyre has this profile.

from my research

for 16" tyre:-
V8 closest match is 205/55R16
GR80 closest match is 205/55R16
Kumho SPT has 195/55R16 (cost about 105 to 110 per 16" tyre only, been using it on my current ride)

are there any other tyre that u guys have been using that matches 195/55R16. I prefer comfort and quiet tyre. Of course wet and dry grip has to be of some standard also lar. so far the Kumho SPT serve me very well interms of grip, as for noise, as i have the HKS exhaust on my current ride, dun know about road noise. but i have some friends using it, most saying quite quiet.

want to open up for more options, else i would probably go back to kumho. Its ranked 7th tirerack under UHP tyres. cool stuff for the cost.

if you feel comfortable with kumho, by all means use it again.

i myself would recommend V8. running it on my girlfriend's car and it's pretty good.

good points being long lasting (a friend has ran 50k on it and still good to go), quiet, good wet grip, and nice sticky compound.

alternatively, up 2 sizes to 17" and a lot of options are open. =]

you sure or not??

haha.. remove the socket, then remove the rubber.
after that look carefully, there's a metal catch. press it downwards to release clip and you're good to go.

size is H4, t10 for pole.

up 2 size very taxing on FC and pickup... hehheee.

Kumho SPT is definitely very good interms of grip. my friend use it to run at sepang, also travel in NSH at 140 wet road (after raining). he is those type that push the car to the max alot, and give very good comments, thus i try this tyre when i change rim.

only problem is i dun know if this tyre is very quiet or not.... hahaa, cause my car now got simota carbon charger and HKS silent hi-power exhaust. also quiet is relative, have to compare 2 tyre personally to know.

guess i will only know if kumho SPT if quiet after i de-mod my current ride

what is your current ride?

up 2 sizes is not really taxing, i've tried 17" with V8 and gotten 13km/l. its basically the weight of the rims that makes a difference and also your driving style.

my driving style is hiong, many bros here can vouch for it thus if i can clock 13, you can clock much better.

look into light weight 17"s. cps2 may be a good start. i see some good deals in our flea market. think was $850 rims and tyres, cheaper than buying 16"s from shops.

currently on Mazda2 SP. ride coming to 2 years in Nov.

16" rim with tyre + trade-in should not cost more than $600. probably can get around 500 or so.

any1 knows the price of V8 for 16", 205/55R16? around 120 range?

another question.

does our ride come with aircon filter? Mazda car does not, and have to buy outside seperately. not sure about nissan or latio.

Have lobang to get the aircon filter at $18 for latio, is it expensive? OEM brand (still checking if its carbon type or normal).

s*** .. just realised got some slight finger prints on 1 of my bulbs .. any danger of blowing ?

from what i know, it will cause the blub to blow much easier. cause the oil film actually traps the heat and makes the surface hotter. try not to touch the bulb surface, or best wear a glove, when installing bulb.

ok thanks. I will check out more detail. my friend is organising a MO for Mazda2, getting direct from supplier. i ask him to check with his supplier if got for latio. if there are people interested in this filter, i can ask him if he wanna come in to do MO here or not.

for $18, if its carbon filter, i dun mind getting 2 and change 1/2 yearly.

manual stated w30.

but you can use w20 as it is a new car.

i've personally tried w20 and it feels much "live-ier" than w30.

but after 60000 km, please do not try w20 anymore. =]

simota, hurricane. all the same. to me, stainless steel means lousy filtration.
how does it affect the engine is a simple logic. more air go in, lousy filtration = more dirt inside engine.

of course.. not to worry. you can always do engine flush to clear the engine. =]

weight of rota can ask me. i got a chart with me.

rota rims are good stuff, im currently running on rota boost 17x7.5", cheap, fairly light, able to clear brembos(very impt for wrx).

for your latio, depends on what you want. if want good fc and pick up, go for 15" or maximum, 16".

tyres, you know i will recommend hankook lah. hehehe, try their v8rs. no regrets. my gf's car travelled 12000km on it already and the treadwear is very minimum. quiet as well.

if you're going 17", try to get japan rims such as enkei, oz, rays, gramslight. match them with s1 evos. you'll love the grip and feeling. with it on, you should be able to negotiate most bends @ 60~80km/h without worries. not even a squealing sound from the tyres.

if need help recommending tyres and rims, can always call me @ 91544534. if im free, i can accompany you down to the tyre shop.

i'll advise you to try 15", 195/55/r15. alternatively, if you're going 16", try 205/50/r16.

price im not so sure. depends on what tyres you take.

i never liked eagle f1 though some may rave about it.

to me, tyres expensive is totally alright, because they are the only things holding you to the road.

as i told you, try the v8rs. good stuff, quiet and grippy.

not too ex as well.

price you got to check it out yourself.

when i say cheap, i usually refer to 17" and above. never use 15" rims or tyres before leh.

for me, i am willing to spend up to 1k on tyres due to my driving habits, but usually about $700 good enough already.

Bro Vypez,

After more than a month of driving my new ride I decided to open the bonnet and see what was inside. I see caps for topping up of hydraulic oil, engine oil etc but I can't find the one for filling water. I saw the one for wiper water thou... it sound ******** but can tell me which is the correct cap to fill water.  :devil2:

Do we ned to top up the engine oil, water etc every now and then??

Water? U mean the coolant for the radiator? If yes then it is right in front between the radiator and the engine. The stock coolant inside is green in colour.

Today I realized that my coolant will exceed MAX after the engine has run sometime. But if the veh is left overnight the coolant level will be just nice at MAX. So is this normal?

1. not a fan of pps. prefer polishing. =] can recommend you my polisher. $380 for 12 sessions package. good stuff.

2. kyowa is okay, not fantastically light but still alright. can try kyowa 626, the RG2 lookalike. like the one in my wrx picture. but trust me when i say definately lighter than advanti.

3. for setup, based on what i see, you're not a bassy person. a more vocal and jazz loving kind of person?

hu : 9887
front : focal polyglass 165v1
amp : alpine f250
sub : alpine swe-1000 active sub

this should suffice.

alternatively, come look for me and talk in details lah!

Wanna ask , shall i keep the Sport Rims that come with the car or change/trade in outside or pay a $50.00 and get the normal bronze rims??

I am just afraid that i lu gi i use the Sport Rims that came with the car and change to the normal but stock bronze rims.....

really boils down to which rims you like. if you like the bronze ones, go for it.

no such thing as lu gi. worry about lu gi, dont buy a car. =]

change rims outside should not void you warranty, but as i will always say, if afraid, DONT change anything.

our latio are using 4x100 rims.

better to call me before you come @ 91544534 in case im not around.

vypez sifu,

im back muahhhahah ... .tmr free bo ... go ur shop tcss ....

thinking of pairing kyowa rims with hankook tyes V8 .... (since v8 seems to get so much good review)
but the tyres noisy anot ah .... good for ice? light?
problem is tyres have to get from Jurong and rims i shd be getting from AMK (either the famous shop or the one opp)

aniway, just to share seems like Kyowa 16" rims is about 130/pc (520 for a set) and Hankook about 160/pc (576 for a set)
Next problem is that varying trade in price of the new set.

One shop offering 300 and another as i read in the forum about 500.
then another near bendemer about 400-450..... headache

sigh .... now i prob have to buy the tyres first then bring to the rims shop to do the installation ... sibeh ma fan ... hahha
latio boot can put 4 tyres bo ah?

next, ice ice baby .... most prob get 9887 and focal 165kf with focal 4.75 ..... subs leave it first .... total shd be about 2.2k

vypez sifu,

im back muahhhahah ... .tmr free bo ... go ur shop tcss ....

thinking of pairing kyowa rims with hankook tyes V8 ....

One shop offering 300 and another as i read in the forum about 500.
then another near bendemer about 400-450..... headache

sigh .... now i prob have to buy the tyres first then bring to the rims shop to do the installation ... sibeh ma fan ... hahha
latio boot can put 4 tyres bo ah?

next, ice ice baby .... most prob get 9887 and focal 165kf with focal 4.75 ..... subs leave it first .... total shd be about 2.2k

sifu ... the price above for rims and ice shd be ok rite .... must let me know if tio "tok" okies .... thks thks ....

v8rs are generally quiet tyres.

latio boot can fit 3 rims, 1 got to put in front. (assuming sedan)

the kyowa 16" seems ok to me, but the hankook tyres.. erm.. i am not too sure but a lil on the ex side?

trade in i dunno already. hehehe

ice you cannot ask me leh, i sure ask you come to me to do leh...

anyway, sunday i m also open. if you want, drop me a line @ 91544534 and come down lo. =]

1. looks. stability. handling. maybe better mileage, depending on the weight of your rims VS stock weight rims. usually not the case as people buy taiwan rims and make it much heavier.

2. ez-stab is a voltage stabalizer to me.

3. tcss - talk ******** sing song.

4. no i am not a mechanic, just a technician.

5. i do up audio systems and car accessories.

weight of rota can ask me. i got a chart with me.

rota rims are good stuff, im currently running on rota boost 17x7.5", cheap, fairly light, able to clear brembos(very impt for wrx).

for your latio, depends on what you want. if want good fc and pick up, go for 15" or maximum, 16".

tyres, you know i will recommend hankook lah. hehehe, try their v8rs. no regrets. my gf's car travelled 12000km on it already and the treadwear is very minimum. quiet as well.

if you're going 17", try to get japan rims such as enkei, oz, rays, gramslight. match them with s1 evos. you'll love the grip and feeling. with it on, you should be able to negotiate most bends @ 60~80km/h without worries. not even a squealing sound from the tyres.

if need help recommending tyres and rims, can always call me @ 91544534. if im free, i can accompany you down to the tyre shop.
Hi mine is stock rims, but can change to the V8rs 195 / 60 / R15?
Cos I heard need to change to a "wider rims"

Stock is 5.5 x 15, based on calculation 195 / 60 / R15 would be good between 5.5 - 7" Rim width.

Which do you reckon?

stock can fit 195/55/r15.

55 would be a better fit and you will feel improved stability.

odo will be slightly off but dont worry too much about it. =]

Hi,
I new here, getting my Latio sedan this coming weekend. Just a few questions.

1) Is the stock tire and rim good enough for daily usage
2) What is the average price for V8rs and GR-80 ?
3) What is the weight of the stock 15" rim on Latio base sedan.

Thanks.

1. if you're a typical latio driver(2- 2.5k rpm constant), yes.
2. you gotta check it out, i dont sell tyres. but i guesstimate v8 to be about 150.
3. no idea. but its heavy. say.. 7kg?

So which 15" rim do you recommend ? My criteria is :

1) About 5kg
2) 4 to 5 spoke
3) Can either fit V8rs or GR-80.

1. 5kg is hard to achieve unless you're going for expensive branded rims.

you can try rota slipstream or rota boost. either that or find kyowa rims. you can email kyowa to find out its weight. (rota slipstream and boost is about 5.6kg)

2. 4 spoke rims are NOT light. both above recommended by me are 5 or 6 spoke.

3. ALL rims can fit. but V8rs under 17" are known as V2.

Hi,
1) So do you have estimate price range for the 15" rota slipstream or boost ? And which shop do you recommend ?

2) Wow, thought the lesser the spoke should be lighter.  :( New lesson gained.

3) O.K, then I stick to Bridgestone GR-80 tire then.

Once again, Thanks for the trouble to answering my silly queries. Have a nice 2008 ahead.

estimated @ $120 per rims or so.

i strongly advise you to try V2. it isn't inferior to V8. just another name.

once you've tried it, you will never want to use GR80.

got a friend who tried V2 on my recommendation, a 53year old uncle.. driving a old honda civic. his car has gone 50k (constant malaysia goer) and his tyres still look fat and ready for another 10- 20k. dont get me wrong here. he's pretty agressive in driving and he likes the grip and noise level.

cheers. hope i've answered your questions and cleared your doubts. =]

btw, if you wanna do up your audio, do look for me.

Brothers,

Getting my Latio premium sedan in two weeks time....  Got couple of newbie questions to ask:

1. The beige interior in my new Latio looks nice but I am little concerned about maintenance / keeping it clean. Any suggestion / ideas from how to keep it clean and spotless?

2. In my old Nissan Sunny, I always use Esso 92 octane petrol.  Should I be using higher octane for Latio or would 92 Octane just do fine for Latio?

TIA.

firstly, hi. welcome.

1. if your interior is pure leather, easy. use the leather cleaner everywhere or even use the leather conditioner. get autoglym if you want, good stuff but costly. if you have alcantara, even better. simple damp cloth will do just fine.

2. recommended to use 95. i know minimum for latio is 92, but 95 gives the best mileage in my opinion when i was driving a latio.

cheers.

started this thread to answer question from newbies, but please, search before you ask. =]

let the questions begin..

bro, wan to check with u on the AC...
if we set to 25'C, or 20'C, how the ac system work? do it get the specifed temp via the mixing of the hot air and cold air ? or the compressor is varaible? or a thermostate to cut in /off ??

next ?, how to set a reply or a reminder email if the forum topic of mine is been replied ?

tks

for the aircon, setting it @ 25 will result in a mix of hot and cold air if running on auto mode. once it hits 25c, it will cut off. compressor will always pump out cold air. if hot air is needed, it simply draws from engine bay.

er.. i think it's under profile. you can set a reminder. not too sure about this. technical questions can lah..

bro,
thks for yr reply.
the reason i am asking was that i find that the air at 25'c is not cold and it is sometime only....let say,if normal case, when just start the engine and you set at 25'c and at auto, it should be blowing cold air right??

Not sure if this is normal for Sedan AT ? Like no power like tat  :( :(

Hope some Lation can share, thanks !

Bro symbolic

go for sparkbridge . . . u can feel obvious difference

Hello...i am going to ask a question which pple may think WAH LAU EH!!!
Anyway i am going ahead.....

1.Our latio battery is liquid right?
2.How long need to top up?
3.Where and what brand of battery water should i use and buy?
4.Can i change the battery to those non-liquid type?? If yes where can i find it? TCM have?

Thank u sooo much.....

 :confused1:

1. should be, if you see 6 caps on your batt, its liquid.

2. got to check. no fixed timing as zzz mentioned.

3. any one is fine.. as long car can move can liao. hehehehe

4. tcm have, but ex. can get from hankook. cheaper i think. =]

any more "WAH LAO EH!" questions?

common problem with AT cars, no worries. its "gear finding", because 60km/h is between 3rd and 4th gear, thus it will stay @ 4th gear to save petrol, thus the lack of power. one way is to use the overdrive button on your gearshift lever.

hi vypez, need u to advise me on which engine oil to buy for my 10k svc on fri.most of the time i floor my car rpm fr 3-4k onwards when driving on the road.heard tat armsoil not bad but where n how many litre much i get n wats the cost??? ;Dhope u reply soon, thxs

hi bro, sorry for the late reply. amsoil is not too bad, but i am currently on "ULTRAMAN" 5w50 for my wrx. my latio is running on the 5w40. its a pretty thin oil but stable oil temp and press. overall, good value for money @ $65. if you want, can let me know.

also, if you want cheap, can try out carlube @ 29.90 from carrefour or giant. most people think its crap, but its pretty okay for it's price. downside is that it's "thick"

the W stands for winter rating, basically dont make a difference to us as we dont enjoy/suffer from winter.

30, 40, 50 is how thick the oil is. basically, more protection if thicker, but too thick and your fuel consumption increases.

for latio, w20, w30, w40 are all ok. personally, i've tried all 3. w20 is good, but you can really see the oil temp rising when you start pushing high rpms.

then will TCM void warranty or not? my car going to reach 10k liao....... after 10k... when is the next mileage for servicing?

nope, no suck thing. no package or other BS that TCM offer, is an add-hog job.

Autosaver is an authorise workshop to service Toyota & Nissan Cars. No reason for TCM to avoid warranty & i don bother abt the warranty giving by TCM...:P

my 20k servicing is $195 which included engine oil & filter changed, air filter changed, air-con filter changed, wheel rotation, inflat tyres the pump again, engine clean, top up brake fluid, check brake pad & clean brake dust in caliper & rear drum, change coolen water & top up reservior, vaccum cabin & OBD dyna test... :D

i use Amsoil oil 5w30, so top up another $20.

Very happy with the servicing, atleast i can be ard there and see what is the mech doing & chat with him.

SS are installed to rectify stock suspension which are too "soft", once installed, the SS will help improve cornering and prevent your car from lowering too much when you have passengers at the back. Hope this helps.

Here's my neubie question after doing my 1st 1K servicing :confused1:
Should we not change both engine & transmission oil at our 1st servicing?
My rationale is that both engine and transmission oil change will help to drain of micro metal bits that invariably are present in a new ride.
Or am I extreme?  :yehyeh:

remove the clips at the top, about 16 of 'em.

take out the big black plastic piece,

reach in, loosen the catches of the front grill.

eyelid is NOT legal.

stock rims can fit 195, no issues, but if you're sticking with 65, what for? during a hard corner, your sidewalls will still "bend" so it pretty much defeats the purpose.

go for 195/55/15, odo difference is lesser and you get MUCH better handling, of course at the cost of some comfort.

Need someone's help to confirm the specs of the stock 15 inch Latio rim -  think its 4x100 ? What about the offset, centre bore and width ?

Is there any difference in specs between the Sports, Basic and Premium versions' rims ?

Thanks !

and by stock 15" rims, which one are you referring to? and yes, ALL the version's rims are different. the only one worth keeping?

the impul 15" enkei.

What is our Latio wheel offest ? We can change to any rims using different offset accordingly ?

this one, you've got me. i got no idea honestly.

probably +42 is a safe bet as i am assuming stock is usually +48. +42 will give you a slightly more flushed look.

So if we use the wrong offset, is there any impact or consequences that might happen ?

I read a few posts in the "My FC getting worse" thread and am a little confuse about the FC for Latio. Quite a few claimed that the FC actually drop. Can you comment on this? Or was it minority?

Thank you...

actually not to worry. humans control the car. depending on us, the car performs accordingly. of course, some factors do play a part such as outside temperature, road surfaces and such.

basically, what i am trying to say is fc really depends on you yourself. if you use 10w50 oil, dont expect fantastic fc. =]

Thanks for the prompt reply, Vypez.

My next question is about CVT. Read a thread that a few bros actually changed CVT.
If I am not wrong, Honda also withdrawn CVT in Jazz because CVT has too many issues.

Would you be able to comment about Nissan CVT? It's scary if the CVT breakdown after warranty.

Thanks in advance...

cvt is still unstable until now to be exact.

but no worries, my guess is probably you wont be keeping the car for more than 7 years and you're probably not using your latio for tracking.

because if you look at oil,

w30, w40, w50... is in terms of viscosity of the oil. meaning, the thickness. more protection, at the cost of more energy needed to power up.

understood bro? its like you walk in water and walk in mud. =]

in singapore, not necessary. after all, most prob use for 5 - 7 yrs only, and w50 is overkill for latio.. but if you really wanna use w50... by all means.

however, i highly recommend w30 for cars under 100k.

nowadays, quite hard to tell.. one maybe tell tale sign is pressing the leather. if the leather stays dented in, prob is real!

well, the stock exhaust is extremely restrictive thus changing to a semi flow will probably make it feel "lighter" as exhaust can pass thru easier.

however, auto cars require backpressure so you're unable to go for straight-thru unlike manual cars.

for me, i've tried both, semi on my latio, 3" straight thru on my wrx. and i truly believe in what i just told you and im pretty sure many will agree.

Hi,

A new latio sedan premium owner. Just collected it on Sunday. Question on the alcantara leather: is there a scotchguard protector product in Singapore that I can purchase and use on the seats? I know 3M has it but can't find it in the local shops. Anyone can advise where to get it and how much?

Cheers!

Hi,

"Scotchgard Fabric and Upholstery Protector"? In 10 oz spray cans, available at Home-Fix, $17.15 per can. I bought at Ang Mo Kio Hub, same level as NTUC Hypermart. Don't know if suitable for Alacantra leathers or not. They may have other range. Understand "Mothers" brand has good leather maintenance products.

Thanks uncle susa. However, Scotchgard Fabric and Upholstery Protector is not reccommended for suede, it's for fabric only. I am looking for something similiar to http://leathermediccare.com/leathercare.html. wondering if any folks here know where to get it locally?

Hi All,

I jsut got my car not too long ago, but not sure about the Fuel Consumption for the Latio Sedan.

I am driving the premium sedan version and somehow i feel the FC seems to be abit on the high side. I did a reset of the the distance travel when i got a full tank and start to monitor.

It seems like I took 1/4 tank to travel about 60~62 KM. is it normal? Or is there some problem. My family had a slight mishap before durign the first few weeks, when reversing the car, they went too fast and the back where the hook is hit the kerb real hard, could it be the cause?

Appreciate if anyone can tell me if that's the normal consumption? Thanks. :crycry:

if your car is still within its first 5000km, i'd advise you not to worry too much about it as you're still running in the engine.

dont base anything on first 1/4 tank, base it on 1 full tank, till light up. pump to full(make sure its the same pump, same pump attendant) and calculate based on that.

distance travelled / litres pumped = FC.

you should be clocking about 12km/l.

as for the accident, no problem. except that your exhaust might be affected and leaking, thus causing loss of power and you revving more.

cheers bro. do check and revert. =]

Hi newbie here,

I got my Latio in January but unfortunately the car met a rock on the highway and causes my rear rims on the driver side dented....heartached!!!
My bro changed the rims to 16" kyowa rims and with firenza tyres...the ride seems more stable but i have problem when i travelling at 90km/h onwards (My normal speed on highways always approx 100-110km/h) as i sense vibrations..

I have done a few times balancing but the problem still persists.  :crycry:
1)Wonder if i should go for high speed balancing?Where to go to do it?
2)Is there other alternative?

Thanks.

hi everyone...

i just bought a new latio premium... and going to collect my new car within 2 weeks time..
after reading the technical problems which were posted, would like to seek you advise on what are the common problems of latio.. so that i can watch out

1.) suspension ?
2.) Power window?
3.) air-conditioning?

none of the above.

latio is actually a 95% problem free car.

only thing to actually look out for is the steering column. =]

temp basis? you can use it for long term. not a problem..

honestly, if you want stiffer and not too low, coilovers are the way to go.

Can someone tell me differences between Latio basic and premium versions? Can we tell the difference just by looking or checking something in the car? I hear people speak of 4AT and CVT models... how to know if its CVT or 4AT ? and what is FL version? I am considering buying a used 3.5 yr old Latio and wanted to check before commiting.

thanks

bro, boot release is right under the lock/unlock keyless entry button at the boot area. that is the only place where you can open your boot.

Stock tyre also no problem if you know how to drive.

hi Vypez, quick one since my separate post yields no response.

1) how and where can I obtain the SG club sticker?

2) is there a latio sport miniature made of die cast that can be display on the dashboard? Been to model hobby shops around but they sell.

Thanks in advance

Hi all,

I'm a new Latio owner here.
Would like to know more abt servicing.
Once the TCM packages expire, how frequent do I have to go servicing?
Every 10k?
What are the things to change at each servicing level?

Sorry, noob here.  :bleh:
TIA

Hi Vypez, new here and just got my Latio a couple of months ago.  Recently, my slow is very unstable it keeps hovering around 800 to 200rpm sometimes it just stall the car and I got to restart again.  Went to Ethoz and they claim that the TB is dirty and need to clean it up and change sensor is this true?

Any workshop to recommend?

I sent my car to TCSC BT branch for my 60k servicing and was told cvt oil change will be 100k cycle. I read on the forum as most owners replace in 60k, internet search to find out that our latio engine code (C11) also recommanded 60k replacement. My recent 70k servicing was in TC JB, service charge rm300plus without air filter replacement. They also told me CVT oil replacement will be 100k interva... Can anyone correct it? Latio Premium Sport.
