Hope this is useful and i believe you will need this is time to come.
Change your Ikey Battery yourself, buy the CR2025 at any $2 shops cheap cheap. Don't goto those camera shop or duplicate key shop.
1 - you need a test pen to ply open the Ikey cover
2 - slowly place the tip of the testpen into the slot & twist open abit
3 - slowly pull open using your fingers, pull open from the side till it fully open
4 - Tata, thats easy.
Happy saving

How long does the battery last before it is time to change? Mine is already about 14 months but before that don't know how long they have inserted the battery. Btw anyone here ever faced the problem where your remote is on you but yet the car system is unable to sense it presence especially when you are trying to crank the engine (meaning I cannot turn the ignition and the key symbol is flashing)? Happened to me quite a number of times. Ask the SA to check and they say no problems found.
-
For me, I drive frequently & use the i-key very often, so the battery only last 12 months for me.
Same problem as you when I crank my engine, so I decide to change the battery. The problem went away after that.
-
Hmm then maybe indication that it is time for me to change the battery...
-
my i-key is 23 mths old and are showing "symptoms" to get batt changed...like i-key icon keep flashing but still can start engine..
was unable to unlock my car a few times when the i-key is too cold...hv to warm it with my palms b4 it unlock my car...
-
The replacement battery is very affordable only $3, should change asap.
-

test pen can be bought in sim lim square level 3, those battery shops. Sold at $2 a piece, very useful for a lot of gadgets.
Don't try to use pen-knife or other sharp objects, because it will definitely scratch your car since u are using force to pry open the thing.
The reason for using test pen is because it is made of silicon, and is gentle to surfaces.

no test pen but tried using some sharp objects to pry open the case...
wow must say very difficult to pry open...think must use some considerable strength to pry open...
worry that the sharp object may accidentally damage the internal circuit board..hence didnt force further...

Thanks! Manage to change the battery. Hope to have more of these Knowledge Sharing Info. Maybe can have a "room" solely for knowledge sharing and DIY tips.
P.S: Just tried to replace my rear back lamp on my own. Manage to unscrew the nut. But can't pull the cover out. Maybe can have a picture on how to DIY like the I-key battery replacement.

Thanks for the advice.
Couldn't get the test pen you mentioned, so I wrapped some tape around the tip of a screwdriver, and opened the ikey shell.
My original Sony battery lasted for 2.5 years!
