Title: car security alarm system by TC?
Post by: turret on December 29, 2008, 10:20:31 PM
Hi,

I saw that Tan Chong is offering a car security alarm system for latio model at about $150+ on its website...

Is it worth it to purchase? anyone care to advise me?

I thought all the car should come with a car security alarm system... what is it that this system offer and the normal car do not have...

Thanks.

Latio only has built-in immobilizer but no alarm.  150+ is quite reasonable since most 3rd party alarms that can integrate with our keys typically cost more than $200+.  Will be intending to install one after finding out what features does the TC alarm offer.

Yup, i had this installed when i bot my Latio. i like it coz it's integrated to our iKey so no extra module to carry around in our pockets.

This security alarm integrated into the i-key has its problems for those who have only 1 i-key.

If you are using the i-key and the other user of your car uses the manual convensional key, it means that everytime the car is unlocked using the manual key after you have locked your car using the i-key, the alarm will be activated and your car battery will be flat in no time.

Latio comes with immobiliser, no alarm (unless retrofitted)

to confirm that there is no alarm, try this :

1. wind down your window
2. lock your car as usual, using the i-key
3. reach in and manually unlock the door
4. open the door using the door handle (outside) or lever (inside the door)

then see if there is an alarm sounding when you open the door

note - car will not be able to start without the i-key in range => immobiliser

This alarm will use the car horn as it's siren.  If your horn is very loud, be prepared to get shocked when you lock or unlock the car.. haha..

I checked with the SE.  Was told that front sensor is only useful for big car like teana .
for latio no need to install.  Must hv confident in your parking skill lah

This is 1 reason I don't like about the horn sound as alarm.

So when we press on our i-key to lock and unlock, instead of the conventional beep beep sound, do we get the sound of the horn instead, sounds really funny...
Title: Re: car security alarm system by TC?
Post by: Silver on December 31, 2008, 12:13:53 AM
actually, you have a choice of leaving it as the conventional beep beep sound or to set it to the sound of the car horn when you use the i-key to lock and unlock the car

if car is broken into, the alarm will be the car horn blaring away

as mentioned in my post, can set arm/disarm (lock/unlock) as original "beep/beep beep"
when searching for car or if there is a break-in, the car horn will sound

can demonstrate to you if you want .......

yup TCM claims with immobilizer the need for alarm is redundant...since whoever broke into car will not be able to drive the car away...but frankly with an alarm does it really help?

how often have one heard an alarm going off only to brush it off as a nuisance and in particular if one parks one car in a multi storey car park. will you know that your car been broken into?

Not true... depends on how much you value your car? The alarm serves as a deterrent... yes agree that it is irritating but that is the whole point isn't it? ;D

fyi, setting the arm/disarm (lock/unlock) sound as the original "beep/beep beep" (soft) or using the horn (loud) can be done by vehicle owner and can be changed easily at any time (instruction given)

Hi, is this mentioned in the manual instruction?  (Never read la.) Which page huh?  If set to horn sound, is it horn once for lock and horn twice for unlock?  I do find the beep too soft when in open car park.

not in owner's manual

was stated on a piece of paper when I collected the car after the alarm was installed

you are absolutely right
horn once for lock (arm) and
horn twice for unlock (disarm)

can scare the wits out of pedestrians as the walk in front of your car when you disarm the alarm

I see.  Thanks, Bro.  That means got to be carefully not to disarm when old folks walk pass your car.  In case they got weak heart.

exactly
after a few months of using the horn as indicator, I had just switched back to the original "beep"
I will monitor and decide which "tone" is better

so, yours is set to original "beep"?
if you want to change to the horn, please let me know

btw, you can always change it back and forth at anytime

Yup, u are exactly right! Especially since i changed my horns to the really loud ones.  :scared: Do u mind sharing how to change to the beeping sound? Coz my SE told me this was not possible. Thanks!

But u know what? i reckon if the alarm ever goes off, my honking sound might get more attention compared to the usual alarm sounds. So i'm actually very happy with the alarm!

here goes :

to enable original "beep" sound
disarm the alarm
open the door (and leave it open)
turn the ignition key "on" and "off" 5 times (but not cranking the starter motor)
horn will sound once and hazard light will flash once

to disable original "beep" sound
disarm the alarm
open the door (and leave it open)
turn the ignition key "on" and "off" 5 times (but not cranking the starter motor)
"beep" sound will be disabled, the hazard light will flash twice

To me the alarm serves as a mean to catch ppl's attention when your car is being tampered with or broken into (for your stylo HU or cash card or your lappy that you carelessly left on the seat).

Not so much for stealing of the vehicle, especially in Sg.

Problem is most of us stays in HDB and park car in multistorey carpark...we can hardly hear the alarm except those that stays near the car park who in most case would probably be cursing and swearing at the nuisance rather then calling up the police to look into it...wouldn't it better to install a alarm that notifies the owner immediately through the mobile or house phone..?

Bros, pls take note. this type of alarm will only goes off if the doors are force opened, if the glasses are broken into, it will not sound off.

Hi Lations, I have finally saved and installed the TCM alarm - to my surprise, it does not come with any LED light in front.....

Can anyone here willing to upload the manual for the alarm system manual to this forum? I like to know are the other functions for this alarm system.

BTW,anyone care to enlighten as to what is the rear boot alarm system as indicated in the poster?

Thank you

I still prefer Nissan Sunny alarm which comes with the car. The sound "ti tock" from Nissan Sunny sounds much nicer than the car horn.

I installed the "car horn" alarm, no choice cos i often lost my car in shopping center carpark. :)

Hi! Yup, i got the alarm from TCM and changed my horns to loudest legal ones u can find. Just go to shop and ask, they will know.

Best investment i ever made to my car coz now got no problems finding my car in carpark plus saved me from being banged by jokers who change lanes without checking blind spots. Both times are "big" cars, 1 was a Camry, other time was a BMW. Hmm.... wonder why people who drive big cars always like that? Coz my dad also drives like that which is why my wife n i both very scared to sit in his car.  :bleh:

No, lah! Seriously, a horn doesn't affect the mechanical running or safety of the car so it will not void the warranty. Besides, when u change yr horns, the shop will return your original horns so u can replace them in future if u want to.

I believe our stock draws 3.5As of power, the bosch ones i got are rated at 4As. Should have more then enough margin so that we don't blow the fuse

for me, i will give 3.5 out of 5.

the short of 1.5 is due to the following feature:
1. its lacks a shock sensor.
2. the led is not on the windscreen so it is not that visible.

I have asked the same question before and one brother is kind enough to share the information here.

They (TC) seems not very willing to share the instruction manual which I do not know y is that so.

but till now, i did not tweak the alarm system since installation more than 9 months ago.

If still cannot find the manual, pm me your email and i can email u.
