Mine is from AIG for the TC purchase discount.  My previous ride is through AXA via Automobile Assoc.  If you are an AA member, get a quote for comparison.  You should consider your needs since all plans are quite different - I go for cost minimization.

When bought car last year, TCM throw in free insurance with AIG.  Just received renewal notice from AIG.  The premium $1000+, excess $500.  Checked with NTUC, terms about the same, quoted me about $200 cheaper for $500 excess.  If zero excess, premium exactly $1000 (still cheaper than AIG).  Did not check with some lesser known insurance companies.  Think some bros got even better deal with these lesser known insurance companies.  But personally, prefer to deal with bigger and more well known key players.

Why not put your dad name to enjoy lower prem ? 1.9K is too exp.
AIG can also cover unnamed drivers under all age conditions

Put his dad's name may enjoy lower premium. But, touch wood, if kena, the excess is much more due to the high risk group.

Somehow, people must start somewhere to start accumulating his/her own NCB.  Otherwise, can never own a car under own name.  If dad is not that young, will reach a stage where still have to pay high excess for high risk group.

Go to www.dbs.com.sg to ask for the Driveshield quote. Now got free $80 petrol vouchers. I just renewed my premium, about $300 less than NTUC. Can pay by installment if got DBS credit card.

I got quoted for $1400 after 10% NCD from DriveShield. The $80 free voucher may be good but Im hoping for cheaper insurance. The excess is $500 tho. Prefer to pay in full if possible tho. Siong man  :crying:

I was quoted $1550 with 20% NCD by NTUC. That's why I go and find cheaper alternatives. All the quotes for my agent are around $1450 to $1700. Driveshield quoted me the cheapest, at $1215, so I go for it.

Standard term and conditions with $500 excess.

One thing to note is the website specified you can go to any workshop to repair your car, but I can't find this clause in the policy. So I suggest you call and check with them first especially your car under warranty.

have you gone through the terms and conditions? is it good?

Still waiting for Maybank to mail me the insurance tho... seem like it went lost tho... I shall ask from AIG since my aunt working in AIA. I shall go for Driveshield if others are damn expensive.

Since DS allow car to go to any workshop, that's one more plus point already.

I read something from MSIG(DriveShield) like any workshop but limit to $350 "Authorized Repair Limit". Also, DS's windscreen cover ALL glass including sun roof but NTUC only front Windscreen iirc. Other thing is "No Offence Discount", no too sure what it is.

What I understand from the policy is the Insured can authorize the repair without the company approval if the repair amount is less than "Authorizes Repair Limit". I maybe wrong  ;D

Those who want to get from DS better check first whether can repair at Tan Chong. As for me, already onboard the ship.

Seems like insurance under  DBS is cheaper than NTUC!
I am renewing mine next month & NTUC is quoting me higher premium (increased S$160 approx).
Thats after all the 50% NCD plus 5% direct discount PLus 5% loyalty discount!
But one point i need to stress, is I have ZERO Excess & on wind screen also. (nobody mentioned this so far). Workshop repair by authorised NTUC workshops.
Now my quoted premium is S$820.64. Will checkout DBS side

Hi,

My insurance is expiring in the next few months. As I am a newbie, grateful if anyone out there can share his/her opinion.

I intend to fully redeem my loan before I renew my insurance for the 1-year old car.

Based on the above, can anyone like to share whether I should take up comprehensive or third party (plus fire + theft) coverage considering it is a 1 year old car?

I always come across pple saying no pt to have comprehensive insurance coverage once there is no outstanding loan. - Is that correct? Why is that so?

Thanks first.

Hi,

My opinion is that if you are going to redeem your loan fully, taking up 3rd party coverage is enough. I recommend taking 3rd party (pure) and not the 3rd party(plus fire and theft). Due to the price difference, if you want to take 3rd party(plus fire and theft), you might as well go for the comprehensive coverage. As Singapore is quite safe (personal opinion again, haha), the chances of your car getting stolen or catching fire is rare, unless you sibei suay.  ;D

Why pple will say no pt to have comprehensive insurance coverage once there is no outstanding loan is because it can save you alot of money. You are forced to take comprehensive insurance coverage (which is expensive) in the first place as the bank which loan you the money to buy car is afraid that you got no money to repair car if you kana accident. If you are taking 3rd party coverage and you suay suay kana accident, your "victim" can claim your insurance and although your own car is not under coverage, if you got lobang you can just send the car to your friendly workshop and get it repaired (probably turn out to be cheaper instead).

For me, my car is 3+ years. Bought it 2nd hand and didnt take up any loan. Registered it under my mum's name so that my insurance damage is not that high. Insured by AXA under 3rd party (pure) coverage with 0% NCD, the damage comes up to $660+ for 1 year.

Just received my renewal quote from NTUC oso, quoted at $600++, altho still has my 50%NCD and 5% loyalty disc. This yr increased fr my last 3 yrs (all $500++ with 50% NCD and 5% loyalty). Wondering wat is the use of 50% NCD +5% if I am paying all the while the same (=$500++), and now this yr increased to $600++. The only reason i can guess is becos i hv claimed a windscreen last yr (same as Ying)..

Will check on DBS oso, c how much they ll quote me..
