Title: Rattling noise from dashboard centre aircon vent, pls advise
Post by: Braveheart on May 18, 2009, 04:20:12 PM
Hi all,

My latio is having rattling noise whenever I drive. Very irriating. It seems to come from somewhere near the central aircon vent above the stereo.

Does everyone have the same experience and pls share? What is wrong or is something loose? How was it solved?

Many thanks

Did you close the cover properly?

The central aircon vent above the stereo can be open up to unscrew the HU.

Did u put anything in the compartment above the stereo? I had noise coming from there once and i discovered that the cause is due to item knocking against the side.

thanks all for your replies.

hwlee - Need some clarifications, what is HU? How can I tighten the screws?

Winxp - thanks for the reminder, but I have tried to remove everything from the compartment, and the noise is not from the compartment.

Mindman - Mine is a 4AT, how does it matter and difference?

Irriated by the rattle noise and hoping to get rid of it. During my last two free servicing with TC, I asked them to solve the noise and they say that they have tighten the screws. Noise comes back after two days. Tired of lip service by TC.

Thanks

HU = Head Unit. That's your Audio Player.

See pictures below. Is your sound come from this part?

Thanks Hwlee for your effort to post these photos to show me. Appreciated

Yes, the noise is from there. Let me try to open and close tightly the lid. Will let you know if I still have any difficulties.

thanks

Don't mention it.

Wow, how do u manage to ply it open without causing any scratch? Is there any potential screw-loose parts underneath the dashboard? I also got the rattling noise. Not able to get rid of it....

Maybe you can try banging on top of the dashboard like you bang the table.  :devil2:

Using your finger push it up can open it already. No need tool.
It only got clips on front side. So, don't push too hard.

Basically for those ppl that install ice on their ride there is bound to have noise after everytin is done esp when the installer gotta open up here & there to change ur headunit, fix up tweeter pods on ur A-pillar, pry open door panels to do soundproofin & change component speakers this & that lar...

But i oso encounter lations who dun play ice at all who complains on rattlin noise here & there, maybe bcoz ours is considered cheap cars as compared to other premium models like murano or teana who's ride is almost silent & luxurious ba. . .

i beg to differ.....it is due to the design of the dasboard rather than being a cheap car....do u notice that it is made up of several pieces rather than 1 whole piece? even Slyphy (did I spell correctly?) also have dasboard noise when  I visit TCM for my servicings....i hear owners complain about noises from dashboard as well....

my dasboard noise tool 1 year to minimise by TCM and it is not completely solved even until today....u can see my dashboard have many gaps due to stuffing of many foams, tapes by TCM.....no choice have to live with it....cos the troubleshooting takes up too much time since tha day I collected my car 4yrs ago.....there was once I even left my car there for 3 days.....

Ya, it's the design of the dashboard which consists of many small pieces which is the cause of the noise.
I have sprayed silicone spray many times to minimize them, (never able to eliminate the noises).
