I just change my tyres and like to share experience with all.
I researched and found that there are many types of tyres and even with the same brand and make each place offers different price. (A diff of $5 per tyre is $20 for 4)
Latio is 185 65R15.... if the shop dun;t have they will tell you take 195 60R15... also the same but a bit more expensive.... I checked...
- manual and Tan Chong ---- conclusion: yes you can take but your FC will increase and your ride will not be so comfortable. Also, the gear ratio for autocar are optismed for 185 65R15, so all will be out....
So please be carefullllll dun;t get con....
btw, I installed Hankook tyres - best tyres in Korea (I went there and all were driving Hankook).
It is cheap at $75 per pc compared to Toyo $95, BStone or Yoko $110 to $120....
Now it is very very quite....
-
if AT gear ratio was optimized for 185 65R15, how about CVT? optimised for any size :confused1: :confused1:
-
i think most of us change rims n tyres nobody check about this small thing

difference of $20 u can get more road holding(more safety). but i think for ur case the fc is more important than the road holding... so y not ask those on altis (185/70/R14) to change their tyres n rims with u then ur comfort and fc will greatly increase since u rather save on $5 bcos afraid of fc suffer... those who know abt car will tell u that tyres are the most important part of the car. u can save on anything but tyres. cos they are the only point of contact with the road.. pls do not mislead people that they are being CON to change their tyres to 195/60/R15 or 205/50/R16 or 215/45/R17.... Pls if u have time go to tyre shop to ask them y need to upsize tyres and rims and see what they say..

Everyone will have their own thoughts on tyres.
Having changed several sets of tyres over several cars, my observation is as follows:
1) Fuel consumption increases with broader tyres
2) Higher tendency to get kerb rash with lower profile tyres
3) More bumpy ride with lower profile tyres
4) Lower profile and broadewr tyres are more expensive to purchase
5) Stock tyre sizes, most of which come in '185' on 15 inch rims are sufficient for Singapore's speed limit, and Malaysia's North South Highway speed limit, unless you intend to take an aggressive cornering and subject your life and other road users and pedestrains' lives to danger.
6) Stock tyre sizes, with a broader tyre height, offer better overall comfort
No matter how broad your tyres are, Latio with high CG & height does not help much and all you need is a patch of oil on the road to get your car spinning or turning turtle
* By the way, 195/60R15 on stock Latio rims will result in tyres bulging out of the rims. Just look at the 1.5l Sylphy.

What is the Hankook tyre model that you changed to? Which shop?
$75 is an excellent deal!

i also just installed hankook K415 195 60 r 15 yesterday - my first tyre change actually.
my stock tyre is only 27k (1yr 8mth) but i activated ABS twice this week because of the wet weather nowadays. :nonod:
service at toh guan is excellent - 30 min nia even though i have somebody in front of me. The new tyre are much much better than stock, although havent really try on rainy days yet but at least when i turn in carpark dun have the damn screeching sound!
overall money is well spent and i feel safer already.

I think you are getting it all wrong....
The tyre shops will want you to upsize cos they can charged more... and hence they will tell you all the reasons to do that... reasons that you have just quoted above.
Look into your car manual - if up sizing is recommended ?
Latio manual did not indicate... the people that know BEST are not the one that sell the tyres but the ones that make the car... so refer to your manual...
btw... I only share my experience - everyone have their own way of doing up the car (or down the car as the case maybe).
I believe in the one that make the car - their specs.... and I would not want to deviate from it.... that's all

Hankook is good so far... but your profile is not the recommended profile by the manual / mfg 185 85 R15... it would be interesting to record and note the FC.... let us know ok.

i dont quite agree with point 2 and 5. kerb rash comes from driver's skills. the reason why you dont see it on higher profile tires is because the tires absorb the rash which will in turn cause the tire to get a little out of shape if you keep on hitting the kerb.
as for point 5, you meaning changing to broader tires are not necessary if i am sticking to all speed limits?

and to be pretty honest, the manual may be recommended for JDM.

hmm, just some reasoning,
2) I agree it is all about the driver skill, but lower profile tyre did not absorb the rash (as what you type) means "Higher tendency to get kerb rash with lower profile tyres ", with same driver.
5) I guess you dont agree with clarence's statement that implies all those with broader tyre will drive aggressive and put passager in danger, I dun agree too. It is the driver, with stock tyre picanto QQ also can turn turtle right? our stock is ok for normal driving, but better tyre (may be broader) does have its advantage over stock. We dont change it is ok but better dun disturb other people. Diff car also have diff size of stock tyre right?
diff people mod for diff reason, some go for look, some go for speed, some go for efficiency (FC etc) and some go for sound. It is all up to the person, we should learn to accept others and use this forum to learn how to enjoy your latio your ways. peace.

Hi Bro Ying,
Think both you and Bro vypez saying the same thing, low profile will buah rim while higher profile will have the tendency to buah tyre first. So if the driver skill is there, doesn't really matter high or low profile. :D

Wah,,, ask him to chill, and the next statemen you call him kia si..
-
One thing I'm sticking to 185, is 185 cuts thru water puddle better than wider tyre. i.e. less tendency for aquaplaning.

hehe, maybe wrong choice of words. better choice of words should be chill, not everyone so cool and relaxed.. for me, i got need for speed.

Bro, which page of the manual says if change to 195 60 the FC will increase and will not be so comfortable? Can share?
he is saying that the manual says that latio on 185/65/R15 will have a very comfortable ride and good fc... obviously he never heard people who change from 185/65/R15 to 205/50/R16 with better fc....
-
Bro, which page of the manual says if change to 195 60 the FC will increase and will not be so comfortable? Can share?
Don't need manual to say ;D
Simple common sense. ;)
Broader tyre = More contact with road, leading to more drag, hence higher fuel consumption.
Height of tyre wall for 185/65R15 = 120.25mm
Height of tyre wall for 195/60R15 = 117mm
Shorter/Lower tyre wall means there is less absorption of impact from tyre side wall, hence technically speaking, the 195 tyre will be less comfortable.
-
Not really, I am using 195/60R15 and did not notice any typres bulging out of the rims.
Yo bro,
since u r on 195/60/r15, would like you to share if there is odometer error? So which size is the best fit, 195/55/r15 or 195/60/r15 for Latio's stock rims?
Thanks
-

and better grip and better braking too! keke
anyway, idone2u is not wrong in sharing his finding, he is just stating what is in the textbook and what the tanchong guys told him. There is no perfect tire, just THE tire for you, depending on your driving style and preference la. Because to me, its all subjective, especially when it comes to comfort, aesthetics etc.
-
if AT gear ratio was optimized for 185 65R15, how about CVT? optimised for any size :confused1: :confused1:
to add on another question, wont that mean after the tires get worn down (less thread depth), does that also mean the settings will run? :confused1:
-
One thing I'm sticking to 185, is 185 cuts thru water puddle better than wider tyre. i.e. less tendency for aquaplaning.
it also strongly depends on the thread pattern, and compound used for the tire. Put a 185mm lousy in the wet tire, versus a 215mm good in the wet tire and you will definitely experience the difference.
-
Yo bro,

Thanks
Sorry bro, can't advice you on that, as I had changed all 4 tyres immediately after getting my 2nd hand latio, the ex owner had 4 different brands on 4 wheels :scared:.
Personally, I feel 195/60/r15 is more comfy but again its my perference.
-
It's interesting to see that F1 tyres don't look very "low profile" at all. Look at the big chunk of rubber on the comparatively tiny rims...
-

I understand what you're are saying. But am talking about the same model.. Like why didn't I go for 195 on the K415, but instead went for 185 for the K415.. Aquaplaning is better for the narrow tyre.
Having wide tyre is dangerous in a wet situation especially high speed thru a puddle of water when your car is light, and our latio is consider light. Prefer to match heavier car with wider profile in such situation.
-
Like to share what I saw today. a car owner want to pump Nitrogen gas to his tyre. Without any support tool, the mechanic release the air of one tyre till the rim almost touch the ground. I look at the tyre side wall flex till so jia lat :nonod: then he pump the tyre up and repeat the cycle again :scared: you never know the side wall on that spot will have some crack and when it will fail when you drive on highway.
-
Ying,
Should be fine. Tyre sidewall is not that fragile. Rubber should still be supple if it is relatively new.
-
hmm.. i'm on 205-50-16.. feel much stable leh.. lolz.. tink its very subjective to each individual...
-

What is the Hankook tyre model that you changed to? Which shop?
$75 is an excellent deal!
185 85 R15 at Hurry Tyre at Serene center Bt Timah road.
The agenet for Hankook got no stock and insist that 195 60 R15 can fit, lucky I checked the manual and the engineers at TC to verify,......
Call up Hurry Tyre and ask them if they have stock for the 185/65/R15 Hankook Optimo K415 and they say that they only have 2 sets of hankook tyres but both set sell already so no more of that size. they dun have any other size for hankook tyres too.. I also did a check with local distributor where they got supply tyre to hurry tyre and their reply is NO. So i can safely save that your "New" tyres are not from local distributor and should be from Hyundai Avante cos even if hurry tyres were to parrallel import the tyres in the wun be just bringing in 2 sets... Please check the country where your tyres are made in and let us know....
-
Bro, which page of the manual says if change to 195 60 the FC will increase and will not be so comfortable? Can share?
The manual will not say that if u change the consumption will increase.
I verified this with engineers at Nissan, common science, and common sense, and google results.... summarised below
ALL other factors are equal - threads, softness of tyres, driving habits etc.....
If the tyre is now 195 instead of the recommended 185, than there will be more contact with the road (hence wat people say more grip). More contact with the road means that there will be more friction. Science 101 will tell you that this will means that the car will need to do more work to overcome the friction, more work done by the engine, more power more fuel. (of course too small a tyre will loose grip - so optimum is given by the maker of the car - who knows best)
If the tyre is now 60 instead of 65, then the car will be lower, cos there is less "air" in the tyre between the car and the road. This will mean that the bump in the road, you can feel it "better".
and hence more bumpy ride.
If the tyre size is different from the specifications, than one turn on your axle in the engine will means more than 1 turn or less than 1 turn in the wheel and hence the distance traveled. What this means is that the odometer readings will not be accurate. Over the long run - a few 10K of km, the differences will become large enough.
I also physically checked a few Latio and found that if they put in a different profile, their tyres stick out of the rims - like going to burst like that... not sure if this is a good sign or not.
Also, as I understand it, the gear ratio etc for the car is designed for the tyre profile specified by Nissan. A different profile would surely cause some strains... what exactly I am not sure at this point.
If we want better grip, we can go for the same tyre profile, but choose the type of tyre/ rubber for wet conditions, which is usually the softer tyres if I am not wrong.
One thing to note - in racing like F1 etc, they wanted to have wider tyres for more tractions, better stability etc but they also change tyres very frequently, and the tyres uses a different type of rubber compositions than the normal ones that we use and they use Nitrogen too. The pattern in the tyres are also different for different race conditions and the softness, hardness of tyres are also factors.
One conclusion I get out of this exercise, there are a lot of science to tyres. I do not want to follow the tyre shop guy blindly (they did not explain to me the drawbacks of a different profile, only say better grip and a lot of people change and no problem! ).
I would rather play safe and follow the instruction from the people that makes the car, who would have optimized and created a balance between tyre profile and other factors FOR our normal diriving - and not race driving....
Just my 2 cents worth
- not meant to shoot anyone down or any tyre shops or any tyres down
- just sharing my experience and research....
CHEERS! ;D

Wider tires effect gas mileage:

Hope I'm not too late with my two cents. I watched a program on "SPIKE" where they were replacing the wheels and tires. The wheels were bigger and wider (15x6 to 17x8). The tires wider and lower profile. They also put bigger brakes on this car, after testing. The tire and wheel weight was close to stock. The final analysis was; slower acceleration (by fractions of a second) because the "centrifugal weight" of the wheel tire combo was moved farther from the center of the wheel. This was also true for the stopping distance (increased) until the bigger brakes were installed. I might not have all the specs. correct but the general idea I'm trying to get across is, IMO, it will look better but perform worse, except maybe cornering will be better.

Yes I know. I was the one that notify Hankook about this.
The tyres were from Korea. I saw one made in China when they are installing... so I did told them.
Try Comfort delgro at bradell... they should have a set there with 185 65 15

your engineer at nissan is from tan chong or the engineer from japan? So to u those who upsize their rims and tyres to wider size all dun have common sense right? Thanks for that comment abt common sense and abt those tyre shop that u say the "CON" people into upsizing...
To me the word "CON" is very uncalled for. Its up to individual to believe what the shop people say and not like that "CON" u into something inferior....

To me the word "CON" is very uncalled for. Its up to individual to believe what the shop people say and not like that "CON" u into something inferior....
I used the word CON because they were not honest enough to tell you all - They tell u can use a different profile tyres and they have done a lot before and they were no complaints, and that it is "OK". BUT they never tell you the set backs and draw backs if you were to use a different profile. Hence CON.
However, they did not lie and tell untruth.... just did not tell you the whole truth - just part truth. I felt CON. (It is a feeling word.... )
Sorry brother, My english not very good - like AH SENG in subaru and cannot accentuate well ... so I will end up suntan in Sydney. ;D... instead.
Tan Cheong engineers and Nissan engineers... to me they are professional enough to tell me the whole truth... they did say " Can change to a different tyre profile, but there are compromises, fuel consumption, ride etc, vs grip etc. If you want to change the tyre profile, please go ahead" I have informed you
This way, I as a consumer knows both side, and not just "no problem, I have changed a lot of Latio, can one lah... dun;t worry".
With this.... I wish to end this discussion from me. I will not respond further as I felt that in my sharing of my experiences and the researched I have, my words (CON, engineers from Nissan vs Tan Cheong, common sense etc) have been taken out of context , and missed the MAIN picture and the MAIN point.
There will always be people out there that insists on bigger tyre profile is better and they have done their own research and asking. There are also a lot of people out there that may not know the differences and the possible drawbacks- I just want to highlight the case ....
... so that we are AWARE.... ;D
It is the same sharing that people will say rolla is better than Latio, or Cont cars are better than Jap cars... and so on and so forth... lah...
Please.... all in good faith (unless you are a tyre dealer...)
-
if not where do they get their tyres from? not from Sin Hong Hwa (local distributor for hankook tyres) then from where???
My guess is:
People who just bought new Avante or similar models using 185/65R15 went to Hurry Tyres to trade in their "new" tyres with/without rims which has travelled just a few hundred kilometres, to upograde to a better tyre of similar size or bigger tyres with bigger rims.
That's how Hurry Tyres probably got their stocks.
Usually in such cases, they shd tell customers that they are selling "take-off" tyres, which shd be cheaper than brand new unused ones.
-
want to improve but dont want to up size can always look at different tyre design of stock size. Look for better speed rating and load rating. not to say you must speed and carry full load all the time but it does feel better than stock toyo.
it all depend on how you want to look at /drive your car.

it all depend on how you want to look at /drive your car.
Great suggestion.

185/65R15 tyres can start from as cheap as $77 for a China made Nankang to $125 for a Thai made Michelin.
I intend to change to the value-for-money $79 Cooper ATP during my next tyre change.

Nueton from indonesia is another gd tyre, authorised dealer by YHI the same ppl who brought in yokohama tyres... Gd in wet & dry condition, had travelled 20k so far but noise level still silent.
Spotted alot of rexs & evos on this brand of tyre, guess its cheap & economical.

They should ..... but I think they did not.... well another lessons learned.... next time I checked with them... are these NEW tyres or "take off tyres"
thanks.....

My tires is due for changing soon. Quite comfortable with stock Toyo tire. Any bro can advise where I can change those trade in stock Toyo tires and roughly how much per piece. Thanks.
-
Stock Toyo tyres cost S$90 each incl installation from Yap Brothers at Paya Ubi.
You can chk the yellow pages and call up some tyre shops to check i fthey have 'take off' tyres.

Thanks for the sharing.

Toyo tyres from my personal experience is lousy on wet roads, rather spend on Mich or Yoko tyres.

u sure alot of rexs & evos on neuton??
Dats wat the sales person at YHI told me... he say they use Nueton to go track session afterwhich they come back change tyres again, its tested & proven by myself. I find dat it has pretty reasonable grips on dry & wet roads & most impt its the price dat matters.
I paid less than 1OO bucks per pcs for a 17 inch

In what aspects are Toyo tyres lousy on wet road?
Does it frequently cause ABS to kick in when you brake?

wah! thats dirt cheap! Price is really attractive, but i once met a man who drives a sunny and was on neuton, he was cursing n swearing, blaming his wife for changing to neuton, and told me to stay away from neuton no matter what.
Im glad to get a different review though. Where is it made from? I know its the in-house brand for YHI, but i hardly come across its users.

neuton is made in indonesia bro..... I got a friend who drive a rex n is using it but never really ask him abt the feedback for the tyres...

Oh stock tyres are comfort tyres and not performance tyres leh. Which car gives performance tyres as stock? Altis, vios, civic? I only know some "atas" continental cars give performance tyres as stock.

anyone try those tyres use for our Taxi??? like no bad hor~ those Taxi drivers still managed to speed so fast, takes corners, cutting lanes with profile 185/65 nia~

How u know that the tyres that is fitted on the taxi's are the stock tyres??? u just take it that the tyres that is on the taxi's are stock... To me is yes for the size but not the tyres cos most taxi company will go for the cheapest tyres so that they can save more...

The tyres are stock until the first service run to be changed by the taxi company. But so far, for the Hyundai Sonata taxis, they stick with Kumho, which is quite a quiet and grippy tyre. I can't say the same for the older Crown taxis though. Why do I know? My dad is a taxi driver, so please don't argue with me. :D

And the bad habit of taxi companies, in particular Singapore's largest fleet owned by the gaverment, which don't replace tyres in a pair, and when taxis are due for scrap, they avoid changing even an almost bald tyre - related to me by taxi drivers.

Just like the avante, some batches are fixed with kumho, and some batches are fitted with hankook.

Both are the same company right? Understand that one of them is the subsidiary of the other. Actually Kumho tyres are very under rated. They are quite grippy and quiet not to mention cheap too.

maybe its just me, don't think will try anything thats korean on my car. Some bros will of coz counter that but like i said its just me.
I simply had many product built problems with things that are built, made, engineered in Korea.
They are good at the onset and asthetics and a packaging, but somewhere along the way during use, something will just fail catestrophically, so I attribute that to built issue
Made in China stuff also no need for me to say much, but this is just my experiences with korean stuff.
However, I must say their LCD panels are rather cost effective and durable.

In the past, Honda made only motorcycles, so when they wanted to start building cars, everyone laughed ;D

haha.. anyone using falken 912?
Yup, me me. ;)
-
oh... so far how's ur feedback on 912?
-
Dry and wet grip is good, maybe I drive like a turtle.
One thing to note that this model is noisy from 25k km onwards, I am now at 34k km and sound like a tank while on AYE (stretch near Bird Park). Other than that, the noise is bearable.
-
haha.. anyone using falken 912?
Me too. As I'm on 16", good stable and good wet property. The other day travelling at 100km/hr, slightly raining, over a puddle of water, the dragging effect was quite little, wonder if that is the aquasplasing.
Oh yes, the comfort and sound was better than our stock, probably still under 10K. Well that's how I feel.
-
woo.. i'm on 912 too.. 205-50-16... juz changed a couple of mths ago.. so far both dry and wet grip good... noise wise i tink still bearable... was considering hankook and this the other time...
next change might be hankook.. heard alot of gd comments of v2/v8...
-
my buddy's car on Falken 912, its a touring tyre, very good treadwear resistance and grip, noise was a lot better than Yoko ASpec series.
must emphasis the treadwear super resistance.

i have said this years back and its true till now...this forum is LATIO N HANKOOK CLUB
u only discuss latio n hankook tyres here pls bcos the senior bros here strongly believe hankook is the BEST n PREFERRED tyre for latio
if u wanna mention other tyres pls present all ur findings with full record of data to prove wat u said cos this forum got all the scientific findings with full evidence that hankook is best suited for latio...haha enjoy

I totally disagree :bleh:
Hankook's are not the best. I had used Falken, BS, Conti, Mich & Hankook and there are better tyres from each depending on what is the preference on grip, performance, comfort, etc.
For a balance of comfort & grip, the contis still my choice; except for the fact on its higher cost. :(

If this forum is only for latio and hankook discussion, please removes / ban / prohibits the rest of the posts. Then it will be the private club of latio and hankook.
Whom do you represend ? Hankok ? Latio club ? Moderators what is your take?
Your comment will only add negative image of hankook. It will not do good if you are promoting. All tyres or goods have their pros and cons.

people can always recommend tyres that they think is good and its up to individual who think which tyres are good for them in term of grip, price and comfort. This is latio club and those bro who are using hankook tyres does not get any commission for promoting hankook and its that they feel that hankook tyres are value for money... if u think that this is LATIO N HANKOOK CLUB then i think is better for u to not surf this club forum as you may think that whatever some bro say is not to your liking and let u think that people are promoting Hankook tyres and not other brands of tyres.

U can say all your kook kook tyres, I sticking to Mich for my next change, coz pple I know who are cheong kar swear by mich performance tyres
I wun also say Kook kook tyres no good, sure got meet some standards b4 can sell here right? other than price and sorts, its just people opinion
I am sure some bros here share with what they experience as being good, not a bad thing, but over doing it will irk or even create back fire.
Why I say Falken treadwear good got real life observation one, the car go Penang all the way 2 times, KL 6 times, Malaca 4 time all in all clock abt 20K, tyres still look new with little wear indication.
Then again some pple will want good tread wear, some go for price, some go for performance, no need to invite flame with all your kook kook tyres talk

So latio club is not tied to any brand or make. As it says it is individual experience and feedback. ;D

frankly i dun see any sales pitch at all.
those individual had also mellow down a great deal already.
i only see individual's preferences here.
But my questions still no one answer... :crying:

This question? "so the cheap cheap tyres is still the best lor? cut corners, cut lanes, speed hiong hiong etc.."
IMO, it is the driver habit not the tyre. Cheap or $$$ tyre, he/she still cut corners, cut lanes, speed hiong hiong, the different is got accident or not.

hot should be faster if I am not wrong. It is warming up theory.

this depending on the actual profile of the new rims + tyre. Definitely there is a rounding up or down error for the odometer. It could be better (i.e. odometer show more mileage then actual) or could be worst. Typical should be fall under +/-1% to reduce such error. Then again.. it is still up to individual. Some just dont really care whether it is within 1% difference or not

When the tyre compound gets hot, it becomes more "sticky" aka better traction.. esp for semi slick or slick tyres :)

Simply put it.. over size circumference = under clock on odometer, under size circumference = over clock on odometer
-
Thanks lorddraco and kanzo, so means when people say higher fc when rim change to bigger size does not necessary mean fc really higher. 1%? that really small difference.
Thank u guys.

When the tyre compound gets hot, it becomes more "sticky" aka better traction.. esp for semi slick or slick tyres :)
and one more thing, Bigger profile tyres doesn't also means more distant to complete 1 revolution? if so, it would have appeared in the odometer that it cover lesser distant? thus the illusion for higher FC?
this depending on the actual profile of the new rims + tyre. Definitely there is a rounding up or down error for the odometer. It could be better (i.e. odometer show more mileage then actual) or could be worst. Typical should be fall under +/-1% to reduce such error. Then again.. it is still up to individual. Some just dont really care whether it is within 1% difference or not
Simply put it.. over size circumference = under clock on odometer, under size circumference = over clock on odometer
under size = over clock on odo???
that mean we will clock high mileage = more servicing basd on milage = warranty used faster?
can we reset any setting to suit the circumference size?
-
Thanks lorddraco and kanzo, so means when people say higher fc when rim change to bigger size does not necessary mean fc really higher. 1%? that really small difference.
Thank u guys.
yes and no. If you upsize your rim but maintain similar over circumference ie a lower profile tyre you wun experience much overclock or under clocking. the FC goes up coz of the additional weight from a bigger rim.. the car will need a higher torque to overcome the additional weight ( start up torque ) plus acceleration affected so maybe you will step harder on acc resulting FC going up. :devil2:

I pump Nitrogen for my new 912 tyres and till date fuel consumption has been the same as stock (185/65/15).
Spend $40 at Stamford Tyre at AMK to subscribe a lifetime nitrogen top up package.

Hi rayace168,
$40 lifetime applies to the lifetime of the current set of tyres. In theory, that means the subscription will expire for that tyre once it is replaced. Upon purchase, Stamford will stick a Nitrogen sticker on each rim. The customer can top up Nitrogen at any of the stamford outlets. Do note that charges may differ at different outlets.

Alan,
In my last car, I had free nitrogen top up when I replaced my tyres.
Those 4 tyres never needed to top up air during its 4 yr lifespan.

4 years and you never topped up? Did you check the pressure?

I checked the tyre pressure, and it never dropped below 220 KPa.
Tyre was changed at Comfort Delgro.

Unbelievable!!!! 4 years no pump air!!! RFTs? :bleh:

Anyone tried Michelin Primacy LC? Keen to know feedback

I changed abt 1 yr ago Bridgestone GR80...... Immediate diff is the quietness and braking quite ok ...the stock tyres are really noisy and uncomfortable to me.

Anyone tried Michelin Primacy LC? Keen to know feedback
My company car(toyota picnic) came fitted with Michelin Primacy. So far its smooth, quiet and the grip is pretty good. But then the car has only travelled 3000+km, so not sure how the tyre will be once it reached 20000+km onwards.
-
Hi just a bit sidetrack...
I saw on my stock tyre that the KPA is 300 (max) or PSI 44..
Not sure if it is okay to pump around..KPA 290 or PSI 40?
Any views please?
-
your tyre will be too hard & uneven wear & tear..
-
Thanks NSman for your advise.
So what is the advise air-intake for front and back?
-
for me, ideally is F240; R230 when tyre is cold. but still up to individual.

290KPa will give you an exceptionally bumpy ride and minimal grip.
240KPa is the safe extreme.

hi guys,
can anyone advise if it is wise to use 205/55/16 profile tyres???
thanks and regards.
-
I'm on that profile, what do you mean wise or not? Grip? Bumpiness?
-
err... i mean... will hit wheel arc? and... too heavy?
but i think since u are using... should be good to go bah...

Going to change my existing 195/60/R15 Bridgestone GR80 with 43000km mileage on it for the new Bridgestone GR90 195/60/R15 sometime this month, anyone has changed to this new tires? Any feedback on the below GR90 pricing, is it reasonable? Most likely will go for 195/60/15 again
185/65/15 = $115
195/60/15 = $125

That good, but what made you to decide on the GY LS2000 ?
-
jliow,
I presume you fitted 195/60R15 tyres on your stock Latio rims?
Do the tyres bulge out of the rims, since stock tyre size if 185/65R15.

No.1 reason, cost, GR90 was quoted as 120 per pc. same as Mich PP2, which was then out of stock. Wld have gone for PP2 if its available
No.2 Made in Japan
No.3 Symmetrical design (easy to do cross tyre swap)
No.4 the overall review by overseas chaps seems not bad
No.5 judging from the groove, looks deep, which translate to longer wear
No.6 Overseas rating of the tyre mileage in JP is 37-45K KM of usage
No.7 Overseas users are using it in areas where there is light snow (means grippy enough)
No.8 Marketing based on (NVR, suitable for wet conditions, good water drainage, new design etc etc)
No.9 Lots of sizes available (though I couldn't get my hands on stock size)
No.10 I am looking for stiffer sidewalls design, not the buldging sorts, out of 5 I like to have, only 2 readily available, and affordable.
Hope this helps.

195/60/15 has no impact on my FC, infact my FC improved by a tiny weeny bit, could be the tyre make. So in all essense there is no impact.

well I look at things from a point where its individual rights to believe what they want and will believe.
Sharing experience and opinion is everyone's rights, in some instance it will conflict with others believe or will believe, then again its a free world.
time will prove everything in its due course.
Relax and enjoy the post, sometimes I get rather bemused and amused by what others share too. :yumseng:

Mine is 195/60R15 but FC is between 12 to 13 plus, which is similar when I was 185/65R15. Both are stock rims, my driving style did not change, still heavy footed as always.

My Hankook K415 is just above 20k, but the tyres seem a bit noiser and a bit less grippy. Feel like changing to GR90 to try try but must control, else change tyres every 20k is very exp. Am I the only one that feel this way?

You will experience improved fuel economy and ride comfort with the stock size 185/65R15.
Agreed from the physics point of view....
The car is optimized for 185/65 R15. If the size changes to 195, then there are more contact on the road, hence more friction.. so it needs more engine power to overcome friction. hence higher FC.
But some people will not experience higher FC .. because measuring FC is not so exact, as u do measure the amount of petrol used by the amount of petrol pumped in.. there are a lot of assumptions made... and the driving style and climate and rain and sun, and the moon and the wind all adds up or subtract the FC. Hence there are claims that there are no change in FC.
Moreover, the change is may not be drastic enough to be noticed, but it will certainly adds up.
Also, a lot of people changed their tyres to 195 without them knowing cos when they go to the shop they just change tyres..by the people there... without knowing the differences... nor the impact....
-

Personally i do not agree that stock size is best for our Latio when it comes to road holding, grip etc.
Anyone who drove from SG-KL or KL-SG in super wet roads in the NSHW will agree that the Latio on stocks don't feel stable even at road speed (110)
I've tried 2 tires on stock size. The stock Toyo tire as well as Yokohama DB. Both about there with a very slight slippery feel at those speed on wet. You just doubt the tires alot especially when example going down Cameron Highlands in the wet
Currently i've been on 215/45/17 Yokohama S.Drive tires for more than a year and i can tell the car is much more stable on dry and especially on wet. Previously when on the stock when going into a big puddle the car would somehow skid alittle compared to now where my car just cuts through. On stock when i slam my brakes ABS gets activated much more compared to my current profile
In every way traction is better on wider tires. FC wise i'm achieving about the same as my 17" rims weigh the same as the stock 15" rims
If Nissan (or TCM) reckons that the best for Latio is 185/65/15 why in the world is TCM in Malaysia selling Latio (Impul) with 205/45/17 profile ?
I'm not saying that stock size izzen good but just that broader tires are better, safer. Well unless FC and comfort is more important to you but then again stock should be sufficient
Above are just my opinions based on personal experience ;D
-
Anyone encounter skid on your stock tyre? My ride is recently hit 40000km and i encounter skidding on my tyre, espeically on wet ground, even though my speed is less than 20km/h, it will kind of skid (come out from my parking lot).
Any idea rougly every many km should we change our tyres?
-
I think your tyres may be due for change. ;)
Wear rate of your tyres depend on driving habits and whether you brake often and if you take fast corners.
Below are some tyrres for you to choose from.
http://www.tyrepac.com/Form/B2C/Home.aspx?type=TyresSearch&width=185&size=15&profile=65&season=all&brand=All&source=Home
I think the Cooper ATP at $79 each is great value for money!
-
Hi,
any idea wat is the consideration if i change the latio stock tyre 185/65/R15 to 195/50/R15?
Less fuel efficient as more contact with ground?
Thicker tyre harder to cut water compared to thinner width ones? Aqua-planning chances increase?
Inaccurate Speedo reading? By how much?
Unable to actually calculate the real fuel consumption as the speedo reading not accurate?
Please kindly advise as i not very sure about tyres. Only through read up den get to know bout some of these consideration.
-
The correct size to upgrade to should be 195/60R15.
Broader tyres technically translate to better road holding, but the set back is slightly (negotiable) higher fuel consumption and aslightly harsher ride due to the narrower tyre side wall.
Tyres may also buldge out a little from the exisitng rims.
-
cos my old ride tyres are very new, and they are 195/50/r15, so i am wondering wat's the considerations if i will to swop their tyres...
-
On 195/50R15, your actual speed will be 7.3% less than what is indicated on the speedometer.
On 195/60R15, your actual speed will be 1.0% less than what is indicated on the speedometer..
Please refer to the link below:
http://www.kouki.co.uk/utilities/visual-tyre-size-calculator
You may trade in your exisitng tyres since they are still new and have value and change to 195/60R15, or 185/65R15 if you prefer stock size, or just stick with your existing tyres if you do not mind the speedometer readng inaccuracy.
Are you on stock Latio sports rims?
-
Wow,the link able to calculate for u jus by keying in the details. Thanks for sharing :)
yap, still on stock rims
Thinking of swoping the tyres but the tyre shops i called all quote me very ex. Anyone know wat's the market rate to do the tyre swop(change rubber from one rim to the other) plus balancing? And where to go to get the good deal?
-
I am heading to SHH Tyres this Sat to change 2 of my stock tyres to Optimo K415. Sticking to 185/65/R15. Cost is at $88/pc, inclusive of GST, 4 wheel balancing and new tire valves.

Izzit? wow the tyres must be hot seller
-
hi Fam,
I have just changed to GR 90 yesterday at $115 per piece inclusive of GST. The price quoted is for 185/65/R15, our stock configuration.
The Company is Hock Thye Seng, contact person is Thomas.
Address is 20 Bukit Batok Crescent #01-23/24.
Telephone is 65602716.
Please call 1st before going down, think they need to indent for you. If you call in the morning, maybe they can change it for you in the late afternoon, else will be the next day.
Hope the info helps.
regards.
-
Will do. Thanks a lot. The price seems quite high for a 15". How do the tyres fare? is it justifiable for the cost?
-
Can't really tell for now... will try to feedback after running in for 2-3 tanks.
The past 2-3 days had been raining quite heavily, and the tyres seemed to "grip" the road surface well. The stock toyo tyres had served me well too for 55000km, though I did experience some skidding during downpour a few times.
I've checked other brands like yokohama and toyo, was quoted $105 per piece... another store offered me $125 for the GR 90 (lagi expensive), also need to indent. So I settled with this company that offered at $115 per piece. Did not have any brand preference, just wanna try something quiet, comfortable and different from existing brand.
-
bros the michelin pilot sports 3 looks nice.. anyone using them? can give FR?
-
Personally, I find those tyres below $100 suffice, unless you drive aggressively and take fast & hard corners and frequent the North South Highway and drive at 3 figure speeds.
Below is a gauge of prices from Tyrepac.

Hi, rang up thomas and realised he got ready stock for the GR90, have called up a few shops to ask bout tat tyre but seems like this is the only one carry that tyre with that size. So reserve the tyres with Thomas and pop by Hock Thye Seng to grab the GR90.
Though i stay in bukit batok, i got difficulties finding the place as it is only one way and the building number is not properly displayed. Anyway, i managed to find it after turing 2 rounds couple with asking the security guards of nearby buildings.
I would say Thomas is a very approachable person, as i am not very sure about the GR90 performance, i enquire with him and he take this time to explain to me the tyre thread, the comparison between my F1 and the GR90, the grooves that allows tracion, water dispersion, comfort, etc.
I din really ask bout the price of the other tyre that he is selling, and i cannot determined whether his price is good in the market as all the other shops i called dun wanna give me a quote and jus turn me down by saying no stock. But i would say tat his service is really good and he really bother to listen and explain things to you. A very friendly and approachable person i would say.
I jus wanna share my good experience with the tyre shop, i am also those cheapo kind who would call up a few shops to compare prices before deciding which one to go to, have tried P.Heng before but was quite turn off by the service thought the price is really cheap. I would say Thomas really make my day and i feel it is money well spent.
Will update on the review of the tyre after trying it out. Thanks to alibaba for the intro :)

u wanna take the risk?? :out:

You have your valid points.
But even with the best tyres, all you need is some oil on the road and you will skid.
I believe in changing to mid range tyres and replacing them earlier before they are totally bald, rather than getting a top end tyre and using them till almost the end of their tyre life, as the tropical weather would harden even the best rubber compound within 2 yrs.
The key is to get tyres that suit & meet the demands of your driving habits.

agree.. ::)
-
Nope, that 195 is still in my old ride, haven sell yet.
Diff brand and type of tyres are created for different needs. Some prefer comfort and will go for quieter tyres, some prefer performance and will go for those more sticky tyres. Some prefer value for money and will go for those lasting tyres with longer mileage. It all boils down to what they prefer, they are the one paying for them at the end of the day.

Generally, most people change tyres around 2 years or 40k KM. Some people may drive it for longer time since they feel comfortable with their current tyre.
Skidding is affected by road surface (eg. when it's wet or there is oil). Many HDB multistorey car park road surface is very slippery when wet, so drive slowly and carefully especially on rainy days.
-
One indication of lousy tires is loud screeching sound when negotiating sharp turns at mscp.
-
Hey Guys, may I know how long did you all spend to change your tyres at Hock Thye Seng? Does it take a few hours?
-
tyre change is usually quite fast, unless u talk ******** with the people down there.
Usual timing taken by all tyre shops is about 30mins to get all the rubber out, change, rotate and put back.
-
Heard from a colleague that Hankook is having 20% offer on all their tyres. True?

need to change tryes too... any place to recommend for LS2000? so far all the shop I called out of stocks... sianz :(

-
I think the crash could be due to road condition, and the condition of your tyres since it has travelled 38,000km.
-
need to change tryes too... any place to recommend for LS2000? so far all the shop I called out of stocks... sianz :(
not a recommendation but you can check out : http://forum.thelatioclub.org/index.php?topic=10607.0
Mdm Koh informed that they have LS2000
not sure about the year of manufacture of these tyres

hi ALL,
I recently changed my 4 tryes to Dunlop SP Sport 300 195/60R15, per piece is $105 and I changed it at Hurry Tyre & Battery... so far I didnt read any review abt this so I thought I can seek anyone's opinion here... for me it is quieter on the road.. cant comment on the fuel consumption yet though...

Hmm... sounds surprised to me. 38K wasn't really extensive yet. I'm currently using this and same profile as you, and about 10k still good even at 90 km/hr on rainy days. Need to be more careful now.
Was it raining and you travelling near the road shoulder ? The road shoulder is quite dangerous esp when wet as there is always algae growing on it.

Hi .... used this same profile tyre before .... apparantly it's an OEM-tyre i believed taken out from Honda Hybrid (*or other make) and i was "conned" to believed it's a NEW lanuched model ..... tks to j*wellery shop !! .... no comment on this tyre though cos aldy very TL liao.

I'm using S Drive too. Really like the tires. Cuts through very well on puddles. Good on wet and dry. But i think the corner cutting of the tires caused the car body to be easily dirty. Also tires seems to be getting louder as it ages...

Bro, let me know if you found the shop and stock. I am interested too....see whether got 2-to-go discount :bleh:

Ya...but 38K for this tyre was indeed below my expectation.... anyway...safety 1st, so dun hesitate to change or have this mentality to wait till xxxxxx milleage then change

The shop recommended this for gd grip on wet conditions...I expected it to be noisy...now can cfm liao ;D
Hoped this can last 40k

Mine are 215/45/17 and are around 1.5 years old
Threads on the tires are still quite deep despite my driving habit haha
Alittle noisy when it ages yea but at least the grip is really good on wet and dry

I traded in my stock Toyo with rims around 38K to ZE912 195/60/15.
Tested few times jam brakes in the dry & rain, the grip is a lot better than J50.
Maybe my rubber still new.

I changed my 195/60R15 ZE912 at 25K, cos the tread almost left 30% only, and yes it is acceptable in both dry/wet but too bad it cant stand the mileage-weared. One thing, the tyre seems abit soft over strips/road-joint at >60kph as the tyre always roll-sideway causing my steering to sudden-turn either sides.

Falken tyres have softer rubber coumpound and tend to wear out faster.

I noticed that a lot of people change to 195 instead of the Manual 185...
do u know what impact it has on our Latio?
I thought 195 means more contact and hence more friction and hence fuel consumption will increase and means that the car is not tuned to 195 but 185
enlighten please

not all Falken tyres have soft compound. mine Ze912 at 45k km still have about 30% left.
If you are referring to ST115, then you are correct.

Heard from a colleague that Hankook is having 20% offer on all their tyres. True?

Try calling P Heng if u dun mind their service. Was quoted $90 LS2000 for 185/65R15 and $85 for 912 from them.

refer to the first few pages of this thread, it is been said at the start of the thread, think about page 1 or 2. Btw, the tyre shop that i went to recommend to stay with 185 for stock rims as the rims are only 6" thick and the tyre will ballon out from the rims if use the 195.

Fam,
I think that is what I highlighted in my earlier replies.
Just look at Nissan Sylphy on '195' tyres using Latio rims and you will see that obvious and ugly bulge.
-
ha, i always think that the balloning effecting is the side wall protection to protect the rims against kerb rush, din noe there is a diff between the side wall protection and oversize width untill the tyreshop owner explain to me ;D
-
My 195 tires do not really have "balooning" effect looks cos my new rims is wider than stock.
;D

Ya, dun noe y the stock rims are only 6" thick. Save alloy???

Cos wider rims will weigh heavier.

If your after market rims are wider to accommodate the 195 tyres, then there should not be any bulge.

Hi idone2u,
I am using 205/50/15 Falken ZE912 on Nitrogen gas .. gotten from Soh Tyres. The rise in fuel consumption is not significant from the time I am on stock tyres (185/65/15).

The change from 185 to 195 has significant improvement in handling for me personally fuel comsumption negligible
give it a try, ive got no regrets 7k into the new tyres on stock rim
given im not too inclined to change rim giving wider tyres a miss
if 195 can make me feel the joy in handling cannot imagine hw 205 will excite me

looks like a shortage of ls2000 all over singapore for our stock size (tried calling 10 over shops)... any other recommendation for tryes <$100 per pcs? hows hankok? got mixed reviews for their tryes...

Your speedo reading on your 205/50R15 there is 5.7% too fast, and also translates to more more km travelled, hence the perception that the rise in fuel consumption compared to stock size is not significant.

performance tyres hardly gives u comfort
comfort tyres hardly give u performance

based on the tire size calculator, 215/50R16 has exact diameter as the stock 185/65R15... has anyone tried that sizing?
i'm on 205/50R16 thus 1.6% faster than stock calibration, happy with the + variance as a "buffer" to clear speed cams... not much (80kph +1.6% is only 81.26kph PIE cam) but sometimes its that critical 1kph that activates the cam :D

If not wrong you can't get a 215/50R16 tire, if can it would be expensive.

Hi erictay_82,
The lifespan depends on your driving style and some other factors. I changed mine right after my 40K mark to Falken ze-912.

Michelle XM2, safisfied with the performance and unlike Yokohama db decibel wears out quite fast with my previous tyres.

I used Falken ZE for 3 years. not complains in wet and dry!
Recently just visit Stamford and they are still offering 80/pcs. This is cheap considering free balancing and rotation and puncture repair for the whole of my 3 years!
