Have a problem with my 07 Nov Latio since last month.
When I engage the Reverse Gear, the car will jerk initially before reversing.
What could be the issue?

Hi Kelvin, just found this forum recently. My car is having some gear shifting + power output problem, I went to the Nissan Service Centre and the diagnostic print out shows the error under COMMUNICATION NG with fault msg "Engine Speed SIG"? Any other way to repair apart from changing the gearbox?

I am also having such a problem...Rough jerking when I engage reverse gear... Has anyone done overhaul on the cvt gearbox before? Can give some advise?  :confused1:

Hi all,
recently encountered some problem with my reverse gear.
after a certain period of forward drive, when i switch to reverse,
my car will stall for 1 to 3 sec before it engage into reverse, and comes with quite a jerk.
when i go back to D and R again, the jerk still exist but less violent.
but when i D for some distance and R again, whole cycle repeats. :crycry:
now the symptom became worse, sometimes when i R, i feel totally no engagement on my R, and i need to step hard on my brake while lightly tap the accelerator to "engage" the reverse, and of course, with the compliment of the rather hard jerk to the car.
I went to TC for a look and they told me its most likely GB issue. tell me to either overhaul it or change it. I ask them is there anything i can change to salvage the GB as my car only let 3yrs+, they say nothing. but from some online forums i read there are still a few things to try before it reaches GB stage.
so from the symptom confirm is my GB problem? and the only soultion is to either change or overhaul?
thanks in advance for the advices.

Hi bro, I changed my CVT fluid and the symptoms did improve. Less jerking, sometimes only. You may want to try that.

Hi bro,

I am also having the same sympton as yours and was advise to either change or overhaul the gearbox. Change the cvt oil but still the same. Lowest price qoute for changing recond gearbox was 1.8k while overhauling is around 2.7k and i am still considering between these two options.

How serious is yours? Mine will still have jerking effect during morning drive. 1.8k for changing second hand gearbox? I will be abit skeptical on that price. Where did you get the quote for 2.7k(ellipse auto)? I am still KIV-ing on my gearbox. As I am living on the east side, I found another company quoting 2k for changing second hand gearbox @ Jackson powertrain. The lady there told me that there is no way to overhaul CVT, say that those workshops that claim to do overhaul actually just take out the old GB and change a recon GB.

If cannot overhaul, then how to find recon gearbox?

Usually it takes around 35 sec to get engaged to reverse with a bit of revving on the accelerator. As it was not affecting the forward drive, i just endure a little bit of delay when doing reversing and at times, got horn by behind car for being slow. Think of getting second hand gearbox but don't know if reliable or not as most likely, they came from scrapyard which workshop claim a recond set from japan...how to see the difference? Even with my regular 40k cvt oil change can have problem on the gearbox, i am having a second thought on this. It would be good if someone who has done cvt overhaul provide some feedback.

hi bro, i replaced my gb before, using a recon gb
the mechanic told me its from japan (dunno how true) and taken out from one of the cars which was scrapped in japan
so far, no issues with it and its been almost 2 years

getting a recon is cheaper than overhaul. as said by him. thought of saving some money but of course the integrity of the recon gb is questionable

hope this helps

Think confusing by technical term here.

If unable to overhaul, then how this term recond short for reconditioned come about.

If get from scrap yard, then it just a used gearbox instead of recond.

Recond mean if any gears, component or PCBA worn or in bad condition, require to change as in overhaul condition. Just my 2 cts of understanding and sharing.
