Accident
This morning I "kissed" a Latio Sedan's ka-cheng along ECP..
Truly sorry to the driver of SGEXXXT if you're here.. In fact, 3 Latios (me in the middle) were cruising at 95-100Km along ECP with about 5 car length between me and the front Latio Sedan. Behind me is a blue Latio HB that is definitely closer (3-4 car length at most)...
When I saw the front bro's brake light on, I gradually tapped on my brake.. Then I saw him brake very quickly so I stepped hard on my brake too.. With ~5 car length away, I can't believe I can't stop on-time... Eventually... I "kissed" the front bro's ka-cheng.. And guess what?!! The blue Latio HB behind me made it despite closer gap..
Feels so sucks...
After-thoughts
My ride is at 41K and it's on stock brake pad and same tyre since day one.. Since about 35K+, I can feel the tyres skid occasionally when accelerate fast from stationary over smooth surface like metal grill on road (feels like tyre roll-over mud).. Recently, the brake also needs to step much harder to stop even at HDB estate speed..
Definitely, I want to change something to improve the braking.. Which of the following is the most cost-effective change?
1) Change tyre (i tot of changing at 50K originally)
2) Change front/rear brake pads
3) Change rear drum brake to disc brake
4) Change front disc brake to better one
My NCD gone
real sorry to hear about ur mishap. but jus to share
1) yes, tires would be a good investment. 40k already, safer to change. Good tires can definitely help in shortening the braking distance. Prepare about $400 for 15" tires.
2) Check the front brake pads first and see how thick left. if there's still alot, then no need to change. Stock Nissan pads will cost $85 w/o installation. Rear Brake shoes will cost $55 w/o installation. Other brand of brake pads i know of cost between $100 (mergent) to $150 (Project U) but its with installation
3) Rear disc conversion is not cheap and it voids warranty. If i remember correctly, Jidousha quoted me $750 w/steel braided hose
4) For conversion of front disc, u have a few options
a) change to cross drilled slotted but same size ($240 @ chip soon)
b) change to bigger disc but maintain caliper. Not cheap becos u have to either source ur own rotor or get the workshop to source, on top of that, u will need to customize a bracket for your caliper. This is guaranteed to have more bite due to faster cooling off period and forces of moments. Was quoted $900+ for Germany rotor and installation.
c) the other option is jus spend about $1800 for new VTTR brakes. Comes with rotor and mini 6 pot caliper and steel braided hoses. There are other brands as well, SILENT has their own in-house brand. but for 15" rim,the size of the rotor will be limited, bigger rims have more clearance for bigger rotor.
d) Change the original brake hose to steel braided ones. This one, u can look for Kyorei82. Believe its under the commercial offering or flea market. about $190 w.o installation. changing of this hose can cost from what i have asked around $50-80
i hope i have helped by giving a rough idea about the cost involved. Accuracy of the information is based on what some workshops have quoted, there may be more cost effective ones around.
