Mileage Needle dropping too fast
« on: December 14, 2008, 09:39:01 PM »
Hi, i am a new latio car owner of abt 3mths. Have went for my 2nd servicing already. I recently noticed that my mileage needle has dropped drastically. Usually, it can fetch me abt 11-13km/L. However, i realised that the needle is now at half tank mark and the mileage is only recorded at 189KM. I was astonish and very worried.

If there is anyone with similar experiences, pls provide some pointers?
MAny Thanks~

if you change the rim and tire, your mileage meter may be off. Sure, air pressure is important for FC, check it soon.

189 half mark hor.... sometime I also get that but It is due to my driving route and luck (red light, slow big bus turning etc).

Usually I get 80km for 1st quater...den 250km for half mark den 350 for 3rd quater..

Mostly city driving..Usually I get 11-12km/l..but I change stock rims to a replica now and im getting 15km/l...

Dunno accurate anot..because last calculation was pumped at half mark...

My mileage drop drastically too after 1st servicing... but after 2nd servicing it revert back to 250km at half tank mark....

I think its because of the ECU tuning.... after servicing the ecu WILL RELEARN your driving paTTERN.....that's what i was told.....

but now my mileage is pretty consistent.... at 13km/hr

for almost 100% city short start stop driving, ~400km for my CVT. 360km is a bit too low.

Did you pump your petrol till very full?
The floater in our car not that good & is not accurate.
I use to pump till the tip of it & end up i need to change my floater.
Full tank but my reserve light on ,bring back to tc & change a new one.

They will have to take out your rear seat & need to wait for 1 day.
After collected my car is full of petrol smell.

Thanks for the reply. So what should i suppose to do in order to get at least 400km? it that ok if me and my girlfriend are sharing the car? Can the ECU handle two person driving pattern?

dun always ram your car lor....
my rpm normally stays within 2000 rpm....  :bleh:
if yours is a CVT also no point ramming....
better to let your car gradually speed up....

Thanks for all the replies here. I will monitor it again. I usually only drive on highways. Could it be also due to i am still on mineral oil? Think i will highlight to TC when i am going for the 3rd servicing.

Hi Lation,

I had a same issue when I had my Latio Sport CVT 16inch rims after 2nd service1 (1000 km), guess its the mineral engine oil TCM provides for free, i was getting around 10km/l too.

I brought my own mineral oil for the 5000km servicing and it help slightly as i was using SAE40 oil.

After 10000km changed to synthetic oil after reading all the posts hear and it help jumped to around 12km/l
That is what my SE mentioned after i collected my car, it will around 12km/l after 10,000km.

Tried VPower and my latio is able to reach about 13km/l after 2 full tanks.

So just hang in there till you reach the milestone.

Could it be possible that TC mechanics leave the engine running for extended periods while performing servicing tasks? It has happened to me before. Returns to normal the next tank.

BTW, TC usually adjust tyre pressures to ~200kPa after service. May want to bring that back up to at least the recommended levels.

Thanks you sound very encouraging. Guess i will hang in there still. Now is nearing half tank and i am at 149KM. Pretty sian though. Will keep monitoring, maybe will highlight to TCM if it doesn't improves till then.

Hi All,

It has been discussed b4 here, where most of our needle will drop faster fr Full tank to middle, b4 slowdown to empty. Eg. for mine, 1/4 = ~80km, 1/2 = ~200km, 3/4 = ~350km, Near Empty ~470km. Few of us hv complained to TCM, nothing much they can do, altho TC tried to adjust (tink the Float sensor inside the fuel tank). One main reason they said is becos of the tank design (bottle neck which is more narrow on top, therefore needle drops faster during the begining).

More accurate/important is to monitor fr full tank to the empty light on, to calculate ur overall mileage. If there is any major changes in this, then u hv to check wat is causing it. :)

Of cos not happy with this problem, cos v "rugi" for us who travels v often to Msia, where the 3/4 rule apply. Hv to top-up earlier than suppose to b when lower than 3/4.

Why or how you calculate your overall mileage for ? If you meant FC, regardless of what shape or how much fuel is used, you still able to calculate based on distance covered over your fuel quantity filled.

No la, TS was worried y his needle drops so fast to half when only travel shorter distance, which is common for our Latio car, so might not b related to FC..
