"Whirling" sound when moving off...
« on: February 09, 2009, 04:24:12 PM »
I got this weird "whirling" sound when moving off...sound goes away after it starts to cruise. Could the sound be from the CVT gearbox, anyone encounter this problem?

yes. that's "turbo" i meant..

it's normal to have this sound. my previous ride which has a naturally aspirated engine has it too... it could be due to the suction of air during throttling...

People talking about slowing down, not speeding up.

i dun think is the cvt gearbox, mine is 4at and i'm facing that problem too..

normally after the car is warm up, the noise disappears. something to add on, if aircon is switched on at that warming period, the noise gets louder..

i scared is the timing belt or chain, is need to change will be a bomb..  :nonod:

I just had my alternator belt replaced as it was "chirppy" during cold starts and after a car wash! Now no sound but this whirling sound i wonder if its such a big issue. Wonder if i should bring back to TCm to get it check and at the same time get themto fixed my rear wiper, its dead.

Hi, I just sent my Latio for 60K service. Before going, there were no whirling sound. Now I when cruising, i am beginning to hear whirling sound! It started to get louder when we began cruising on the highway & I can hear it clearly when  stopping.
I am very pissed. My car was not like that before servicing & this will probably be my last service at TCM. My warranty expires on 21 Mar 09.
I went to TCM last sat for sevice & change rear window motor!.
Waited 7 hrs for them & get this sound at the end!
Anyone went to TCM & get this resolved?

sounds like aircon compressor to me. betta have it checked b4 ur warranty over. mw still waiting for stock to arrive. If it's a chirping sound upon engine start, could be alternater belt. got that changed as well during my 40k service

I am going down to Ubi TCM again today. Insisted the service advisor arrange a tester for me during their lunch hour (i have no choice, got a 4pm flight to catch, leaving car in Ubi).
By the way, there is no sound untill I reach cruising speed or 70km/hr and can hear it clearly when slowing down. My warranty expires within a month. :zipped:

I went for testdriver with TCM tester yesterday.
He confirm I got problems with aircon  compressor and wheelbearings.
Luckily that tester told me aircon compressor spoilt. :yehyeh:

forgive me if i give the wrong info... but if the sound u are describing is this irritating bird chipping sound when we start our engine, then its the same that i had earlier. when I asked my mechanic, he hoisted the car up and tighten two nuts below the car and the sound was gone... The sound came from this part that seemed to be connected to the drive train below...

Hope this helps

I also encountered this whirling sound when accelerating. I don't think it is the aircon compressor or gearbox related. Even after I turn off the aircon and blower, and even put to neutral gear, I can still hear it clearly when I step on the accelerator.

Anybody has got this checked by TCM before? What would they do to it, and how long do they need to get it fixed?

Guess the only way to check is to get together. Take a ride in another Latio that seems ok.
If you heard same sound, haha then its normal.
I noticed the sound only after sending in for servicing.
